They are not without problems either! While the great majority of users seem to be almost religious followers of the Rotax I am definitely not one of those. The 912 in my S-7 has been a constant PITA!!! One issue after another. I spoke to two different people yesterday that have been having nearly identical issues that I have been having. As soon as one issues is found, diagnosed, and then repaired usually at considerable expense, another problem seems to arrise. I seriously would not trust this engine for anything other than local or around the patch type flying. Hopefully I will be able to get all the 'bugs' worked out and be able to enjoy the plane more than what I currently do.
One of the guys I spoke with replaced nearly everything on his Rotax engine except the case and crankshaft assembly before he sold it and is now running a UL Power engine on his Sea-rey. He is extremely impressed with the UL and said he did have one minor issue when he first installed it but the factory support and part replacement was top notch.
