Jackson Hole Heli Skiing causes mercury poisoning?

I cannot for the life of me provide the full link, but from the 1-13-18 issue of the Idaho State Journal, buried in an article about the new heli-skiing outfit in Jackson Hole that just started up is this quote: "Teton Springs resident Diane Murphey wrote she feared the temporary use permit had been issued prematurely. Murphey had testified at a public hearing in the fall that she suffers from mercury poisoning and that she had concerns about the emissions from the helicopter affecting her condition. She is medically prohibited from flying on airplanes".

Maybe Jackson local STOL can fill us in on how close she may live to the operation, is she huffing directly from the exhaust pipe of the helicopter or does she live a mile or further away? Is Teton Springs a mental ward of Jackson Hole, or an upscale high dollar neighborhood? That she is crazy is not in question, but how did she profess to come up with the science to back up her statement. If I had been chairing that county meeting, unless she had a wheel barrow full of extensive documentation including PPM of mercury versus x amount of hours of helicopter operation, prevailing winds, and how all that stacked up against the mercury she was exposed to by driving to the frigging meeting, I would have told " sit down and shut up, you're wasting our time".

oh geeez!

Its a greenie thats also a heli hater...High Mountain Heli has been there for over 25 plus years. Thier use area keeps getting squandered by these folks. They are now limited user days from the FS that are now down below what the had in the 80's.

I will stay professional from there...

Oh Boy.....................   .

Teton Springs is in Victor Idaho,,, over the pass from Jackson.....

http://www.google.com/#hl=en&sugexp=les ... 80&bih=827

There might be a Teton Springs Condo in the ski area .. but the idling city busses put out 100 times more fumes then a heli does... Funny she forgot to mention that. :^o

I just put a new Schweiss hydraulic door on the hangar the heli lives in.... The operation is first class with late model heli's and I cannot believe it discharges more by-products then any other fossil fuel device.... The greenies were successful in banning the heli ski guys from using the Wyoming range, which is a wilderness study area... it is not a true wilderness. They use that classification to get their nose under the tent and with this kind of BS ranting then get everyone thrown out of public areas....

I will dig into this further....

Damn, I was hoping she was on the Wyoming side Ben, but she is in Idaho :( It'd be interesting to find out where she moved from and how long ago. The ironic thing of course is that if she really does suffer from mercury poisoning, she IS crazy! I'm just glad she is not my neighbor.

I was in or near two different places this year where I saw signs "Wilderness Study Area". Both times I had looked for landing areas within these areas, and then landed outside them and hiked or mountain biked in. Only then did I see the signs, something tells me I did good not landing there....

Teton Springs has a lot just for heli ops sold to them by one of the developers and fellow pilot. It's platted, so it's been a sticking point for years. Not sure where the mercury comes from, maybe grinding her silver fillings while thinking about how much she hates helicopters?
