Haha Rob, very good observations! And UtahMaule's spot on with his camo logic, either that or that is the only warm clothing they had to ride 4-wheelers in all weekend in freezing wet weather and wind. Not sure which it was but the camo stealth makes sense!

Yep, the jeeper was glad help showed up after 2 hours of ditch digging to drain the swamp, and jacking. There was plenty more to do. Good to have friends who work for cheap whisky to finish it off. Up until then the jeeper and lady were warm and dry. No need not to be seen without a camo' ride and besides, he didn't get the memo. Had landed not far from that spot weeks earlier before it was drive able.

Thanks too for the keys reminder, that would be fun. Now you know what the one on this end looks like.

If you look to the right of the photo, you can see the plane above the 3 antler points about a mile away. It was one of spots; if it looks like it might be rough, it is! Was on 35's at time...

I, on the spur of the moment, headed out there today, for breakfast. Got 45 minutes out, and didn't like the virga hanging down and the increasing headwind so wimped out. Still had a great flight.......since I was in the neighborhood I low level flew a site I mountain biked the day before, after first finding the same site with the airplane,several days before, it's a vicious circle.

You've sure got a great set up there. Too bad about the weather and thanks for the valiant attempt!

I made it over there early Thursday morning, after a crane job I had scheduled canceled the night before. It was about a 2 hr flight for me, made a bit more interesting when my GRT Mini took a crap, it's my only source of ASI. No biggie, my GPS still worked and the GRT EIS showed RPM so I figured things out from there.

Downtown Jarbridge appears to be appropriately funky, about what I expected, after eyeballing things there a bit I flew down river and eventually stumbled upon the ranch strip mentioned. It took a while as it is sort of blended in. I always have a hard time judging the height of brush, and again in this case thought it was taller then it proved to be, I could have landed it I suppose but with the road right there, I chose it. It was plenty long and in good shape. 35's would be no sweat on the runway, even 31's, even 29's once I got a good eyeball on it from ground level, IF there wasn't any other choice. Looking at this picture it looks good, better then it seemed at the time. Sitting here at home looking at the picture v. sitting in the plane overhead is two different things I guess.







Somehow, when I left the town site and followed the road down, I failed to see any road cutoffs until down a ways from the strip, in other words, once I landed, the route back to town seemed to be even more down hill, pass the ranch house, and then back track back up. Now after re-reading this thread and perusing GE I see I could have headed UP the road I was on to get back to Jarbridge, obvious as hell now, but I guess I started looking for it too far downstream or something. I don't do a lot of preparatory recon on these trips, I like to be surprised, now and then this attitude bites me in the ass though. No matter, near Jackpot I got a call for a crane job back in Poky, he wanted me right then but I put him off until "after lunch", meaning anywhere from 12:30 to 5. Anyway with the road seemingly backtracking around and that job, not to mention it looked it was going to over develop early in the afternoon, I blew off the bike ride this time.

Back in the plane I wandered down the canyon a bit, and stumbled upon Murphy Hot Springs (more of that getting surprised thing) and landed there, got the bike out and rode downtown (apt, at least as the down thing, no town there though), it was a 8 mile ride there and back and a nice little break, the ebike ate it up. While there I saw a road sign "Jarbridge 15 miles". Even that would be no sweat for my new e legs, next time maybe. If nothing else the ride down to Murphy was worth it because I got to see this: crap, lost the picture...picture a AMC Pacer mounted on treads, there is one in Murphy, trust me. BTW, the Murphy strip was in fine shape.

I'd like to go back when I have more time, and take my camping gear so no hurry to get back the same day, now that I fully understand the road layout , it got real scenic the last few miles before Jarbridge, it sort of surprised me. Plus the cafe , still closed I was told by a Murphy local, is opening this weekend. I made it home slightly before noon, nicely beating the OD'ing clouds (cloudbase was only 10K or so, though it never did thunderstorm it looked like it was going to any minute all day), and made my crane job in time

Is that the road next to the strip you're on? I ask because it looks more graded in the first pic.

Yes, that is the road next to the strip, plenty smooth for anything.

Looks like it could be pretty steep taking that cutoff from the airstrip to the main road. I might have to bribe a local to haul my lazy butt back up the hill! Been raining all day here

Jarbidge, jarbidge, JARBIDGE! I have been corrected on my spelling, though I really think Jarbridge sounds better and makes more sense.. You'd think Art in Murphy who came up to the airstrip would have corrected me but I guess he was just being polite, I must have said it with the second R about 10 times.

That would be fun gathering. I'm in as long as it is before June 15th or after July 10 because were headed to AK then.

Dudestickle should be all over this since he loves to visit old mining towns. As far as those go, this is a great one. Cory, I can help organize something so let me know when your thinking of going.

I still need to plan something with Rob and Pop's (CG too if he wants to joins) for a desert trip.

damn weather, its been rain or wind for quite a while here with more forecasted until mid week.

unfortunately i'm back to working for a living every day for the next month. then hopefully a trip up to Skagway. I've marked down jarbidge and i hope i will make it there eventually. it looks cool

Ok Mike. I have a few holes in my schedule before and after your AK trip. I'll look and see what might be a possibility.

Great flying weather now if anyone wants to meet for a bike ride into Jarbidge, I can get away almost any day this week or next.
