Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Dang that must be that drainage that comes down from the other side of the field by the trail to the hot tub overflowing!

Experimental Avid Flyer STOL 582 Rotax
Have any of you guys checked out the Bonanza wreckage near JC or is there still too much snow?
I would love to visit JC in the next year or so and was wondering what the best route from the East would be with my 180 HP Fixed pitch Maule. It's published service ceiling is 14,000', but I seriously doubt it could do any better than 10,000' in the Summer.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Maule MXT-7-180A
MAU MAU I think you are underestimating your Maule. It should have no problem clearing the highest terrain in all of Idaho. Hell, I had my 145hp 170 up to 15,000ft going across Nevada on the way to Caveman last year (early in the morning). And that was loaded to gross minus about an hour and a half of fuel burn.

My first trip out to ID in 1986 in my PA12 with 150 hp was Spearfish up and over the lower part of the Bighorns to Cody. Winds were bad up into Yellowstone so waited a day and met three guys from MN that were flying a 150 hp Cherokee with baggage. Weather was iffy so I went first to tell them how the pass was into Yellowstone. It was good so over the Lake they asked where I was headed and I really didn't have a plan so they said follow them as they were going to McCall. I have a picture of the Chereokee mushing along so I figured if they could make Idaho so could I. Had never flown over such rugged terrain from Salmon to McCall but we made it and I went back quite a few times.
