Hey,

You beat me to it. Nice to see things look pretty good there? I have to say though, I thought that the disclaimer that they have added was kind of humorous. Does that really have to be said? I guess some lawyers would say "yes" for liability reasons.

Low & Slow, could we bother you for an update? Thanks

And it is pretty smokey again.

Again, as of Sept. 21. Still green, too, and no smoke in sight. Better hurry.

Hey,

Johnson Creek's webcam is back up again. It looks like there are still some trees still standing.

Hey Low&Slow, how about some aerial recon photos the next time you are over the are so that we can see how badly the area is burned. It looks like today would be a great day to be up there. Skies look clear from JC to the Flying B. Sigh. :( Unfortunately I'm all the way across the country in NYC.

Aahhh CAVU, you beat me by two minutes! Glad I'm not the only one that compulsively checks the webcams. My wife thinks I'm obsessive.

Looks like it's still closed by TFR. There's a phone number at the end of the NOTAM for the coordinating agency. They might provide some insight about their intentions.

Here's the NOTAM:

Not the resposne she was looknig for  Her response to my response :x  . Needless to say I'm not on the "A" list. :(

It was a beautiful day to fly today. Probably the first really nice day since sometime in June. Really a shame.

I'll take a camera up and get a damage assessment for you guys when I can, but really about the only thing I can say is the damage is staggering. Over 600,000 acres burned within about 50 miles of McCall. It's still on fire in many places, but the wet weather we had earlier this week calmed them down and washed away the smoke. This time last week, we were flying around with about a mile or three, and turning around when it would get too thick. Amazing what a little weather will do.

As for the TFR, the current manager and Air Attack have been really helpful. I think as long as you contact them on the published victor frequency, they'd let you in. All the other TFRs have been shut down, so navigation is a bit easier.

Did we finaly get our break?

Hey L&S,

Thanks for the report. As much as I want to see those pics, I know it will make me sick to see so much burned. Hopefully this will be the break and the beginning of the end to the fire season. Also thanks for the info on the TFR.

That's why I want a hangar so bad: all weather playroom/doghouse. Better go check the tire pressures tomorrow!

I have a fairly nice 36x48 shop with a small office in the back. I figure I'll spend most the winter in there  Between wood working projects, reloading and working on a 55 chevy project, I suppose I'll stay busy.

Have a frig and freezer with a microwave. So beer and frozen burritos looks like the new diet

I did a resto on a "54" 180 in the late 90s. Had the wings off, stripped it and took it down to bare nothing. Turned out pretty well. May build a kit one of these days.

See ya, Bub

sounds like a sweet setup! throw in a fridge, a hot plate and long couch and you're set. :) It's too soon to start thinking about holing up for the winter, though. I just went through the cool weather camping gear. Gotta do another trip or two.
