Johnson Creek tomorrow, June 1st
Get together with other pilots or enthusiasts. Plan it or get info about it here.
Gonna make a long x/c from central wa to Johnson Creek tomorrow. The plan is to familiarize myself with the area and check it out before i take the kids there for the fly-in. Curious if anyone else is going to be flyin around the area or if theres anything going on tomorrow. Will post pics and give a report when I get back.

Hey Jeredp, that's a good idea. The weather should be really good.

smart idea...one idea would be to stop in mccall at the redbarn or next door at the fbo...lots of topnotch instructors around there...would be a couple of well-spent bucks to get one of them to ride in with u the first time, and it is just a few minutes from there...just a thought, jomac

Have fun but from Central WA to Johnson Cr isn't really a long XC

Considering Bobby comes from the East Coast in a Cub and lots of us in LSA's come from CA at 80mph. Wish I was going. I'm sitting in Sandbox half a world away all summer

Well, I left Cashmere a littlle after 5 this a.m., stopped in Wenatchee for fuel, went direct to enterprise Oregon to top off. I then went into Johnson Creek. Everything was as expected, takeoff roll was longer but I still had good climb performance. What a beautiful place! I left JC and went to McCall. I left McCall and went Direct back to Cashmere. Saw alot of beautiful and very rugged country and put 6.2 hrs in the logbook! I'll post a couple of pics if I get some guidance on how to do it with gallery being down. Thanks for everyones tips on the trip! I'll be back!

see it's really a piece of cake compared to some of them up there... between Moose creek and JC i can't decide which is easier... just be on your toes in the canyons and enjoy....

Yeah it was great. Plenty doable for my airplane. I can sure see the potential problems with weight and anemic airplanes like mine when youre in those canyons and the air is moving around. I also didnt realize how spoiled I am, even though i fly out 1800 ft, its only 856' elevation. My old O-300 realy likes those low elevations for takeoff.

There's no doubt the 170/172 needs a 180 to be a contender in the mountains. What prop are you running? That can be a lower cost takeoff performance boost, to have your prop repitched flatter, or even upgrade to a seaplane prop. The latter might not be doable on the trike.

Youre right about the prop Zzz I'm not quite pitched as flat as I can go. By the the type certificate data sheet, I could go an inch flatter but I'm able to make max static at 1000 msl. The 80" seaplane prop isnt an option on the tricycle configuration. I know some guys up north do it and clamp a piece of rubber hose on the strut for clearance but I worked too hard for my a&p/IA to try that in the lower 48.
