JPI Fuel Scan 450

Who has a pirep for the JPI fuel scan? I'm looking at installing one in my 172. Is it worth it? How accurate are they? I would like to be a little more precise with my fuel use so I'm not only flying off the top quarter my tanks all the time.

Best investment ever! I LOVE it! Make sure you call Aircraft spruce...I had the phone price come in less when I got mine than online. Doesn't hurt to ask!

Had one for couple years, love it and very accurate. Stock Cessna gauges leave much to be desired, excellent backup IMO

I've had two....one in a work plane and one in personal plane.

Incredibly accurate right out of the box and very reliable. One of them has a couple thousand hours with no glitches at all.

And I like their display better than their competitions.

Put one in before my trip to Alaska this summer. Best money I have spent on the airplane thus far. Obviously I still time my fuel, but it sure is nice to have the redundancy, as MTV said, very accurate out of the box. I set the K factor out of the manual, and haven't adjusted it.

Ditto on all of the positive comments. Love my 450 and am constantly amazed at its cumulative accuracy. I routinely add fuel in 10 gallon increments and might go six months without ever topping off and checking the total. When I finally do top off, the indicated total is always within a gallon or two and that is often after at least 100 gallons have gone through it. Also I use both MoGas and AvGas at different times and it doesn't appear to affect the accuracy at all.
One caveat about the 450 is that, with a carbureted motor, the fuel tends to surge. In order to get a good steady indication there is a dampening factor in the 450 programming that you might need to play with. I don't recall the specifics of that factor but I know it's in the installation info. Just something to keep in mind. Money very well spent for situations awareness IMHO.

Mine has been very accurate in the 172 with the O-360. Currently putting one in the C182. We'll see if I get the same results.

Ditto what the others have said regarding accuracy. Once I got my K-factor dialed in it has proven to be accurate within 1 gallon every time. Also the comment on surging is spot on. If you don't get your damping set right you will see wild swings in the real-time fuel flow indication. I had a bit of trouble with JPI customer service but their product works as advertised.

I've got one in our Bonanza. Next to on board weather it's my favorite instrument. Very accurate. On fill up its always within a gallon or less. When linked to your GPS it'll give you landing fuel on board at the current fuel burn and ground speed. Also duration with current fuel. Both very comforting to know :D I would highly recommend one.

I'll echo what others have said. Very accurate. My only grip is that I wish the former owner who put in the 450 and the EDM 700 at the same time would have just opted for the fuel info on the 700. I'm guessing he did it so he could continuously have fuel info displayed, which is nice, but takes away the ability to combine fuel data with other engine parameters. I only mention this in case you have or intend to put an engine analyzer in. Otherwise, it was always wishin a gallon until I put in an avionics master and it got wired to it. Now with the cumulative time over a tank of gas that the avionics master is turned off, it's off by a little bit more but always with in 2-3 gallons. I'm messing with the k factor to see if adjusting it can add a buffer to compensate a bit for that.

With the long range tanks on the 205, when I'm down to 20 gallons or less, the fuel doesn't even register when sticking it. After seeing that the 450 was accurate, it sure adds a little comfort that the fuel that should be there most likely is!
