Juneau in July - What to do?

Hello All,

I have lucked into being invited on a sweet fishing trip (http://www.wildalaskacruises.com) leaving Petersburg on July 11th for a week. I have

never been to Alaska and figure if I'm going all the way to Alaska I might go a few days early to do a little exploring before getting on the boat. I'm

looking for suggestions on things to do and see in the Juneau/Petersburg area. Preferably flight seeing, but I'm open to anything. Any

suggestions will be appreciated for things to do and places to stay.

Thanks

If any of you Southeast AK guys take pity on this bum and offer him a ride in your plane, please let me know soon so I'll know whether to change my airline ticket and show up a couple days early too. :)

Heli ride would be awesome. Thanks!

Does anyone know of a flight school close by where I could possibly get some float time? I've never been to Alaska before and am really excited for this trip. Just want to make the most of it.

Thanks

Re: Juneau in July - What to do?

There is a CFI in Juneau that does some instructing but I don't think he does floats. I don't know much about him other than seeing him around PAGS sometimes as he rents a hangar across the taxiway from ours.

There are a ton of CFI's in Juneau and many floatplanes but it's really hard to find anyone who will take the risk of providing instruction.

I would call Ward Air at 789-9150. Ask to speak with Ed or Randy Kiesel. Might be able to hook you up with some time ($$$ and a jug of Crown would go a long way in the endeavor). Probably won't be signing your logbook but you won't find anyone any better. They have C185, C206, Super Cub, Husky, Beavers, and Turbo Otters. It's worth a try.
