So our planes are federally registered, if you live in the U.S.
One would think that would be enough.
But no, at least not in the state of Maine.
They charge a registration fee and an excise tax, every year, on an aircraft.
What the hell gives them the right to impose this double registration and also charge a state fee?

If there were as many aircraft owners in a state as there are automobile owners or firearms owners, this crap would come to a screeching halt in a matter of days. Along with STCs, PMAs, class III medicals, and Feds acting as judge, jury and executioners.
But, with our small numbers we are pretty much powerless. AOPA does not wield the same club that the NRA does.
