KACV CHG#2 — KRBG KTMK 2021.06.26

I’m pondering flying down to “California Redwood Coast - Humboldt County Airport” (KACV). There’s a few LZs I want to explore, it’s a pretty vast area. I know “June Gloom” is very much here now. But, I’m in no hurry.

Any constructive guidance or information is welcome!

Re: KACV - Humboldt County (information requested)

Hop on down the coast a little from Humboldt County to o33 Samoa Field strip (New Navy Base).

Hotel in the 1944 Officers Quarters, and now a bar and eats.
Coast Guard Station is just a little down the spit.

Be sure to hit the Samoa Cookhouse to the north. Breakfast is an experience.
(Lots of abandon lumber decks there=land there?)

If you get into Eureka, look up the lumber baron Carson Mansion.

Further south is Shelter Cove too. A quiet place.

This is in the State of Jefferson so not all of the California craziness. It is all pot growing country so do not surprise the guards.

Thank you c180Bill. I definitely appreciate the information. The coastal fog is really an issue right now. LIFR in many areas but, will burn off in the afternoon hopefully.

Note: Holiday Inn at KACV has (24) hour shuttle for guests at the airport! Pretty nice eh?

Re: KACV - Humboldt County (information requested)

The Coast has been calm LIFR (morning) or CAVU (afternoon) blowing 20 knots. Decided to take the inland route South.

First stop is Roseburg, Oregon (KRBG). It’s 84F and clear. Friendly little airport, I always enjoy it here. Staying at a very nice AirBNB.

Note: There are hundreds of sandbars on the Umpqua River. Looking real good for LZ recon on the way back!

Tomorrow’s plan is stay inland of KACV, TAF(s) are forecasting LIFR (June Gloom) on much of the coast.

Relaxing and enjoying the air conditioning in this fabulous AirBNB. Rendered a little video of today’s fun flying to Roseburg:
