Got mine from Spruce last year. The line from the remote panel switch to my unit wasn't long enough. Had to add an extension.

So on the short remote wire. Its not just short, its damn short! Damn short as in it reaches from just behind my Selkirk ex baggage under the floor, and up into the panel, and not a inch to spare! Literally. Just one more foot would be so much better for routing through the floor, etc. But, it worked for me, and was a simple install. If one was going to get a longer wire, will a regular phone cord work? I don't have the manual sitting here to read that out. Also, with it being just long enough, I have no extra for a drip loop on the remote wire from the elt to the first connection. Would a dab of dielectric grease on that phone wire hurt anything? I have lots of it.....

Mark M, hows the pacer doing?

Regular phone cable doesn't work. The shop that helped me instal it made an extension. You can also buy an extension from spruce. The provided line didn't come close in my 206.

Finished painting the engine parts yesterday. May start assembly today after giving everything a nice hot soapy bath.....now that water is running again. Fuselage and all steel parts have the first coat of primer. Waiting on the hazmat shipment...more primer.

Warning: About to show ignorance!

How do we test the new 406MHz ELT's I remember that the 121.5 units could be tested at particular times of the day and they could be picked up on common radios, but I am unclear how we can check that the signal is actually getting out of our plane with the new units. I know a little light blinks but that is not telling me the signal is actually going up to the satellite.

I really don't want to trigger a search, but would like to know the bleeping thing was working as advertised.

Wel, funny you ask. My shop chose the turn it to check it technique. RCC let me know that it was working. They also called the shop based on the satellite location given in the signal. Boom, it works. This isn't the proper way, but it works once. I think this is the beg for forgiveness method. I'll look the manual when I get back to the house.

FYI, the batteries are considered hazmat. So if you're shipping to AK highly consider supporting an Alaskan business and it should work out to being slightly cheaper than shipping from the lower 48.
