Hey guys, Im keen to come fly in the states. but would be really keen to do the flying myself. I would like to look at purchasing a little plane similar to mine (a drifter) and do a month or so flying around over there.

I was wondering if anyone could advise me as to what is required to get a licence over there coming in with a licence from another country.

my current licence is what is known as a recreational pilots licence. so basicly its a licence to fly aircraft with 2 seats and an MTOW up to 750 kilos during daylight hours. so for example jabirus, foxbats, s7's savannahs ect down to drifters, quicksilvers, thrusters and so on. my goal would be a drifter or a thruster, something in that category. still the proper rag and tube seat of your pants flying but still practical enough to cover some ground.

Explain to them where and what you are doing. They should be able to give guidance on the licensing.

I'm not sure exactly what your plans are but, if single seat is an option a drifter can be flown under our part 103 ultralight rules. Which means no license required. My friend owns a drifter and flies it as an ultralight. Never seen it on a scale but has to bee getting close to that magic we get of 254 I believe.

Licensing has become so complicated here since I soloed in 1977! Impossible for me to give guidance sorry! Licensing is usually good nationally.

As the man said, if it meets the Part 103 standards in the US, no license required. Do a Google search for "FAA Library" and search for current regulations, then Part 103. Pretty simple.

Typically, if your license is current with a valid medical, you need to take a test for an endorsement. You do need to speak english, Aussie is kind of a form of english, right? The rules keep changing, but they are in part 61 of the FAR's

Mate im so there!!! between that and float flying in oregon with ted, I will be happy man! but I must be honest if i even get a glimpse of your bird dog....ill be strapping myself in and wont get out till you've taken me for a spin! the bird dog along side the lancaster is my all time favorite warbird, and it is my dream to get a ride in one!
