Looking for some input on kids sleeping bags. Can anyone gove a review? My boys are about to turn 5 and 6 and I'm not sure what kind of bag to get them. What temp rating for summer and fall trips to idaho and oregon??? My goal is to avoid having to bring a blanket because their bags are too light. As always, weight is also important. Thanks for any input!

We've done a bunch of airplane camping and backpacking with our two kids, and they both have used North Face "Tigger" bags. They've never complained about being cold, and they're pretty light. We use insulated pads from Big Agnes, which helps a lot too.

We put our 3rd child in a Grasshopper from Eureka this summer. 7+ years running doing Idaho, Utah, etc. trips with them. Good to 30 degrees and come in girl and boy colors. Even a little pocket for their stuffed animal or treasures. Around 3 pounds. Our kids haven't ever complained about being cold. Sleeping them on REI self inflating pads and an Exped pad. We've been really happy with them. Kids are 7, 4, and 2.5.

I wouldn't buy a kids bag. They need just as much (if not more) warmth as an adult. Most kids bags are not as well made or high quality as good adult bags. Buy them the same bag you have. They won't get cold and they won't out grow them.

We have 2ea of the Kid's Trestles 30 by Marmot. Plenty satisfactory, and your kids should get a few years out of them, size-wise.

I bought kid-sized sleeping bags and wish I hadn't. They didn't get enough use to justify the expense. In hindsight I should have purchased two adult-sized bags because the boys grew so fast.

Have a look at the bags Wiggys.com produces. They have sizes ranging from kids to large adult. They are filled with lamalite insulation which allows for indefinite storage in compression sacks, machine washable, and they retain 80%+ of their insulating value when wet. Also, made in the USA!
