Jughead next time you are in the area check out Heller Bottom actually down on the Missouri river with nice little cabin to spend the night. It is five minutes from Know ridge. And if you want to low level it try it down the Missouri west of Knox. There are plenty of Bighorn sheep to spot on the way. One of my go to flights. Steve

Jughead,

Very cool, thanks for posting! Too bad you didn't have more time to camp.

Good. Video! Knox Ridge is one of seven airstrips located within the Upper Missouri Breaks National Monument. During establishment of that Monument, the first proposal was that all these strips be closed.

As a result of very professional and educated feedback from numerous pilots and groups, BLM elected to leave these seven strips open.

Montana Pilots Association helps maintain the strips, in partnership with RAF and others.

Heller Bottom is a Private inholding, but the owner invites other pilots to use this strip.

The Upper Missouri Breaks is the last remaining stretch of the Missouri River that remains much as it appeared when The Corps of Discovery traveled through there in 1803.

Lots of deer, elk and bighorn sheep are resident there. Camping is welcome at any of the strips. Winifred, just south of the Breaks, has a nice turf strip, cheap self serve avgas, and bar and restaurant downtown.
