Very cool. I looked it over when I saw it in Nampa at the beginning of the summer but I didn't have a camera. When you figure out how to get a ride let me know :D

Saw them in an EAA Sport Aviation magazine article, May 09 I think, about Missionary Aviation Fellowship. The Mud/rock flaps are from Aero Twin.

If that is still a factory model, they are easy to get rides in. I rode in one when it was in Coshocton, OH last summer. We did 2-3 trips around the pattern. The pilot kind of hosed up a couple of the landings, by not using full flaps. On the last attempt to show us how short he could land, he "dropped" it in hard, and had full reverse. Other the a very rough landing, that one was short!.

Those "mudflaps" are available from Aero Twin, Inc, on Merrill Field in Anchorage, Alaska. Bring $$, but they're worth every penny if you fly heavy airplanes on gravel a lot.

Re: Kodiak in town!!

I had some free time in Sand Point Idaho in June of 2007 while working on a diesel to hydrous ethanol engine conversion project when it was arranged by the developer for me to tour the Quest factory. They were just finishing up serial #1 and were debating delivering the plane or delaying deliveries by keeping that one for themselves. The plane and the factory were both quite amazing and state of the art. A man and woman from Alaska had been there and ordered one for just themselves. No doubt if you were a prospective customer you would get a demo ride. That leaves me out. Too many holes in my pocket.

Re: Kodiak in town!!

I also took a tour of the Quest factory in August of' 07 and watched #1 fly...doing aft CG tests. There is a video of this plane taking off on bmurrishes posts on Vimeo. They had just fired up #2 that day and #'s 3-5 where in different stages of being built.ImageImage

I was thinking about going over to Ontario this weekend, not sure if I'll make it over though. Anybody else going?

Re: Kodiak in town!!

Dumb question?

How come it's got that silly wheel in front, instead of back at the tail where it belongs?

Give it a few months flying in the rough and see how bad that prop gets beat up.

Re: Kodiak in town!!

I am partial to TWs also, but was actually impressed with the prop clearance. I'm guessing prop clearance, and noise are the two primary reasons for the 4 bladed prop instead of the 3 blade that resides on most -34 powered airplanes... It probably has more prop clearance than a Porter  and certainly as much as alot of ag aircraft that constantly run off unimproved strips...
TW or not I'd sure like to fly one 8) but I think I'd still prefer a Porter or Stallion for my personal dream toy

Take care, Rob

Re: Kodiak in town!!

This one was painted in Ogden, Ut for its new owners. The factory guys came down to pick it up and said they had not seen better work. I believe this is the plane that was on display at Oshkosh as well. My calls to swap planes straight across went un-answered
