La Garita & Hooper - Thanks MOUNTAINMATT and MTNWEST

Great flight today - 4 hours of flight-time from KFTG to La Garita to Hooper (for lunch) back to KFTG. Shout out to MOUNTAINMATT and MTNWEST for their guidance - Really appreciate it guy's! I've flown to a ton a places, but not many rival La Garita!!! Matt and Alec failed to tell me that when you land to the east at La Garita with a left hand pattern, Downwind and Base are around a huge rock outcropping and final requires you to zig-zag down a valley (I did get a little close to the ditch right after touchdown). Pure fun! That place is just plain cool!

After that did a short hop over to Hooper. Carly (the owner) was totally the bomb - Made me feel welcome and cooked an outstanding double bacon cheeseburger smothered in green chili. Then hopped over to the wet mountain valley and back to KFTG before the mid-day storms.

Hard to have a better day!

I'd post pics if I knew how (Now I do - Thanks Zzz).

Jim

In the image below (Hooper pool, an oasis in the middle of nowhere, fed by an artesian well); if you look at the left margin, you can see the nose of the Maule. Freakin cool to pull up to pool in such a desolate place.

I need to write a new How-to for all the common activities on the site, but to help you out now, it's easier than in the past.

1. Navigate to your personal photos my clicking the ME menu --> My Photos.

2. Assuming you've uploaded some photos, find the one you want to post in the forum and open its display page, kinda looks like this.

3. Click the "Image URL" link just above the photo. It will open a new tab showing only the raw photo. Copy the URL our of the address bar to your clipboard (CTRL + C)

4. Paste into your forum post between [ IMG ] paste here [ /IMG ] tags. This is made easier by clicking the "Img" button in the post editor first.

Voile.

Glad you enjoyed the trip. Great pictures. Any flight that ends with lunch and a soak at Hooper always makes for a good day :D The real recognition goes out to Mike & Carly who allow us to fly in to their private strips.

The East approach is fun... you don't see the runway until you're short final. Small hill at the end of the runway and ditches on both sides, gotta come in clean. If any of you are interested in seeing what Jim is talking about, check out the video that MountainMatt put together of the East approach. Runway details, maps, and video are posted on FlyCo:
