Re: Lake Mead's B-29

I have read about this wreak in diving magazines, it is to deep to salvage, and the national park service has declared it "off limits" to recreational diving.

Re: Lake Mead's B-29

Nothing is too deep to salvage. Maybe too deep to do it cheaply. And what does the park service care for. I have been doing some fire sprinkler work in one of the nearby NPs. I now have a better idea as to why our country is just about belly up.

Maybe they can get Greenamayer......he's a real whiz at B=29's....at least he probably couldn't set this one on fire very easily!

Ouch #-o Badabing! When I watched that documentary I didn't know what the end result was going to be, I almost cried.

Anyway,

I was under the impression that the US Air Force has somewhat recently asserted ownership of all their aircraft wreckage nationwide. I know that the USAF entered into a formal agreement with the National Park Service over the B-29 and the artifacts from it.

Re: Lake Mead's B-29

Living less than 10 miles from from my house- Lake Meade I fly over area quite a bit. The B-29 went down on southwest side of the "narrows " (about 22 miles from my hanger)about a 1/4 mile off shore. I believe it's in 100-150 of water. Park Ranger flying 206 (Bruce Lenon) pointed area out some time back. At certain light levels /directions I've seen indications of where it might be. There are no buoys but park service boats will stop you from diving in area.

I think it goes back to the quote "It's a good thing we don't get all the government we pay for."
