When I asked at S68 the answer was I cannot say yes and I cannot say no. So I use the grassy area parallel to 27 and just announce on short final that I will be using "27 right". I get some strange looks when I am on the ground.

At RXE there is a well worn sport where some folks land and takeoff. It is between the taxiway and the runway. Don't know that anyone ever asked, just stared doing it.

Ditto. I had to stop at a paver to use my cell phone once. I had the tires down in pressure for gravel and roads. The scuffing sound on contact with the asphalt sounded frighteningly expensive. That night I had a nightmare of a big fat tire chasing me with a nasty cheese grater look'in for payback.

I do all the time on xc's. It makes landing at an otherwise boring real airstrip more of a challenge. Off airport in the classic sense, even though the airport is just feet away! Like others have said, lots of potential obstacles plus being politically correct about it. I never ask, unless towered, and I stay away from them anyway. Don't do it at Sandpoint Id. BTW
