Mount Antero has a F.S. road to the top and there are several long straight sections as you near the top. The last few hundred yards you have to walk. Then there is always Pikes Peak. It has a road all the way to the top and they run a race on it every year.

Blu, you have a lot better chance at landing above 13k, but being above 14k, I can only think of a few spots with about 500ft of real estate to land and takeoff from. Most of the grass/rock ridges your seeing are a saddle or 13ers. I think the biggest hazard will be the loose rocks in varying sizes. Some can be no bigger than a baseball, but then the odd ball is bigger than a basketball. It'll be really hard to tell what you're landing on until you actually landed.

I agree with what Kevin said as far as checking your regs. Many of the people that hike 14ers are enviro-freaks and will do everything in their power to see you're caught. To them an airplane on the top would be a very unwelcome sight. I'd hate to tarnish our GA image because we simply wanted to "bag" a 14er. On the other hand, the views will blow your mind.

This one is on a mystery spot someplace, probably in Nevada, gps had altitude sickness, and map was vague, but the "big" red light came on again, and had to stop to check it, altimeter showed 12,700, light went out so I took off, never even left a track. The engine sure didn't make much power there, ...restarted fine tho.. ..Damn light....

We used to fly off of Bross, and top land. *With hang gliders*. Density altitude made every landing and takeoff very interesting...

Having lived and flying airplanes in the Colorado mountains the last 45 years I can't think of a 14'er that you could probably land and take off on. Mt Evans and Pikes Peak paved roads, short straight Stretches and traffic. To many rocks, (big rocks) on most and to steep, unlike a lot of the mountains and ridge lines in NV and ID and WY. I've been jeeping the CO high country since the early fifties and been looking for landing sites since then. Damn few in the high country. Now with a Jet Ranger or such, that's a whole different story. Every time I fly across NV with all the N/S running ranges I see a lot of possibilties.

I know of a guy a couple of weeks ago that landed on a ridge above Creede at around 12,200. Had the same issue with the red light. 150 hp Super Cub. Heard it was real pretty up there. I would think a Super Sport would have no issues up there....
