Las Vegas

I know, Nothing to do with backcountry flying, but need to make a trip and what information I have looked up or called on so far has been discouraging.

Early November I get to go back to Alaska for a week and flying commercial out of LAS. I would much rather fly to Vegas than drive (2 hrs vs 5 hrs) But the cost, ouch! All three airports have varying fees, landing, handling, overnight, that make the flying option pretty unattractive. Both Henderson and North LAS have a handling (45.00 and "it depends" respectively), LAS will wave said fee if you buy fuel, but charge 80.00 a night to park. Henderson and North LAS are cheaper, 15.00 a night, but no shuttle and 60.00-80.00$ one-way to LAS.

So, i'm hoping someone has some local knowledge of little known transient parking, cheaper shuttle options..... [-o<

Thanks, Chris

Contact BCP member 182STOLdriver, he lives in the area, has a hangar at Boulder City, and may be able to offer some assistance. So long as you don't show up with "Hillary in 2016" stickers on your airplane, you and Bill will get along pretty well.

Re: Las Vegas

Thanks Bill, i'll give that a shot.

I would not put any politician's sticker on my plane (or anywhere else for that matter), let alone one for her or her goofy husband.

Damn.

Years ago North Las Vegas was $5/night. Made it a no-brainier.

Re: Las Vegas

Right, I get paying for a service, but there doesn't appear to be that much service for what they want to charge. The fact that the FBO at North Las Vegas wont tell me what they are charging in advance gives me a lot of pause.

It may end up being cheaper, and less hassle to land at Boulder City and rent a car. I'm waiting on a quote from National, but it sounding like they will do the same deal I have gotten at South valley regional in SLC, 30.00 day crew rate, drop off at LAS and pick it up again for the trip back. Not cheap, but still half of the cab fair from either Henderson or North Las Vegas.

Re: Las Vegas

I flew down to Henderson last month. The FBO there was great and welcoming of GA aircraft. $15 per night with the first night waived with the purchase of 10 gallons. The gallons vary by aircraft size but for cessnas that's what you need to buy. They have a shuttle to the strip. I didn't use it and can't remember if it is free. If it is, that puts you a stone throw to the terminal and I'd think you could walk or at least get a cheaper cab ride. We used to walk from the GA side to the Luxor.

Good luck!

Re: Las Vegas

Hmmmm, interesting, I asked specifically about a shuttle and was told they don't have one available. Still 105.00 to park for the week, though it might be worth it if they do have a shuttle. Thanks

Re: Las Vegas

We've flown into Henderson Executive a several times over the past couple of years and have never been charged a parking or overnight fee, even for trips that were 3 or 4 days. We do buy fuel, because if we don't we won't get very far when we take off. Seems like the shuttle was free to go into town, but if you wanted a ride back you had to pay for it.

Re: Las Vegas

I use North Las Vegas. I don't recall what the overnight rate for a single is, but no more than $15 a night. Can get into it without entering class B, too. It has always worked well and the staff has been great. Maybe they had a newby answering the phone when you called. You might want to give them another call to get the right info.

They don't have a shuttle so you'd need a cab.

Re: Las Vegas

Thanks guys, I have a month to figure it out. Guess I will be calling a few more times to see if the story changes.

It's just strange, been to several big city airports and had a few small fees thrown at me, but nothing like what I have been told when I have called here, just figured it was a Vegas thing, cant have the casino's getting all you're money #-o

Depends on what your Fly into area is it a Falcon Jet or Cessna>piper>Maul. Rates for overnight at Boulder City is 5 bucks. The Enterprise Rent a car will bring you a car. No one Mentioned "JEAN" 0L7,no class B, just south of Vegas Where I think parking is free or maybe 5 bucks a night, motel Casino within walking distance and once again I believe Enterprise rent a car .For Back country folk there 's the "Ranch " 45 miles south east of Vegas AZ50 - no rent a cars unless you count the pickups sitting between the airplanes.Parking fees collected at Rosie's restaurant and bar across the road.

Re: Las Vegas

I fly up frequently mostly for business both North Las Vegas and Henderson charge the same I believe it's $15 per night. Both are under but not in class B airspace. i find its easier to rent a car than taxi or shuttle. Henderson is easier to get into but it's on the South end of town, Enterprise and Avis is on the field in the terminal. North Vegas rental cars are available but they have to drop them off at the field. North Vegas under class B airspace and a lot tighter. Boulder is quite a ways south Bill Read has more info on that one. They all charge a lot because there are only 4 in the area and they can.

Re: Las Vegas

Thanks Bill.
I checked on 0L7, sounds like they have someone that comes over at times during the day and "tags" transient aircraft, if you get tagged, its 15.00 for each day. So depending on when they come, you might stay overnight, get out early and miss getting tagged, or you might be there 10 minutes and get tagged #-o Either way, doesn't sound like a better deal for this trip than the others.

I get the supply/demand thing, but it would be nice if they could give a bit of a break. Just because you can squeeze people for all you can get, doesn't mean its the best practice. I have had the same argument with a business here in town that has been fighting the courtesy car at the airport, because they want to charge 20.00 for a shuttle. My point is that when pilots find out the price, they would rather walk or just go someplace else. When we started lending out our car, and now that there is a courtesy car, pilots go to town to eat and shop, and come here because there is a ride to town. Better for the airport, better for the town.

Re: Las Vegas

people come to vegas and piss away thousands of dollars in the casinos and other fun stuff. I guess $15 a night to park an airplane is out of the question
