They were a lot cheaper back then trust me.... Got them over a 2 year period.

Got that right. Last time I was seriously considering a Beaver on floats for our BC place but just couldn't justify the $$$, I was looking at less than what some of these new Cubs cost now.

Of course, those were back then dollars too....

Re: Latest Kenmore Beaver

In 1986, GSA sold the Beaver amphib I was flying at the time for $22,400 at auction. The plane needed a different engine, because the accessory case was cracked, but 985s were cheap then. Otherwise the plane was in decent shape, did'nt need much if anything, and the floats had just been gone through pretty thoroughly. It was a bargain, no doubt, but back then, most commercial operators were "discovering" the "more modern" Cessna 206. Right up till they "discovered" that the Beaver would haul twice or three times as much as the 206, and stand up much better to the conditions as well......

I rue the day they took that Beaver away from me and replaced it with a brand new 206......

I recently read "Success on the Step" by C. Marin Faure, 2004, ISBN # 0976020009.
Covers the history of Bob Munro & Kenmore Air Harbor from WW2 days to the 1990's.
An excellent read.

Re: Latest Kenmore Beaver

I believe the Seahawks constructed a dock so that "really tall customer" could fly in to the training facility located on Lake Washington.

BTW, a small piece of trivia involving Kenmore Air. The founder Bob Munro was a Pan Am mechanic in Seattle in the 40's and my dad was one of Pan Am's pilots back then and was good friends with Bob. Dad related a story to me of when Bob was tossing around the idea of starting the Kenmore business and talking to my dad about it. My dad strongly encouraged him to quit Pan Am and start his own business. And the rest is history.... :D
