Leading edge paint (or lack there of)

So hears another question for the pros. Is there any reason why the leading edge of the wing has to be painted? Just curious as I debate a Horton removal sportsman install. My Horton is red to match the stripes on my fuselage and I like that it helps melt the frost off faster. That said, my polished 150 melted off fast then any of the other planes at the flight school, so I can see a stainless leading edge being beneficial from that aspect. So why not just clear coat the leading edge? I do like the look, kinda matches the polished spinner. Will it hurt anything?
Thanks.

Clear seems like a good finish. Not, sure about having to prime? Does it work on bare aluminum?

Turtle Wax is my clear coat. :D

I rocked the unpainted leading edge on my Sportsman Stol for a couple years. No reason to paint it other than to make it match your paint job. Polish the aluminum with some Nuvite if you want a mirror finish. I'm not sure I'd try to coat it with anything.

I think a polished cuff would look pretty cool on a painted wing.
