Leadore -July 4th- Show & Shine

Avoiding the craziness of flying the ‘Frank Church” this time of year?

How about attending a small town 4th of July celebration and fundraiser for the Leadore EMT’s? These folks are in their 40 + year of putting this on!

Country Breakfast - 7AM- Adults $8, kids $6, under 5 free
Silent Auction - 7AM to Noon
Parade - Noon
Rodeo - Starts after parade

The All Volunteer Leadore EMTs help provide emergency services to residents and visitors in the hundreds of square miles of wild country in Lemhi County. This is their only fundraiser!

U00 Runway 11/29 is 3500’ x 140’ recycled asphalt and rolled gravel in good shape. The 16/34 runway is closed and is available for parking and camping for Fly-in attendees. No camp fires please.

All activities as well as restaurant and store are within a short walking distance. Info: Jim Mateski 541-948-6575

Re: Leadore -July 4th- Show & Shine

Thanks for the heads up! And why didn't I know about this already?! I've been flying into Leadore for breakfast since my UL days in the early 80's. I used to taxi up and park right in front of the cafe. It's always fun to see how the ghost town of Gilmore to the south is doing, and the area's scenery at least to this Idaho pilot's eyes, is better than anything in the Frank. I will be there barring weather.

Re: Leadore -July 4th- Show & Shine

One time when I walked into the cafe, waitress Debby asked me "where's the plane?" I mentioned that there was a Marshal's car parked right by the strip exit, not really in my way but I just figured I'd not push things. She said " Oh that's Frank's (or similar) YOU SHOULD HAVE ASKED HIM TO MOVE IT, HE'D BE UP BY NOW."

Another time, as I slow taxied the very short distance to the cafe, passing by a parked 70's era big old cruiser with a tattered vinyl roof and with a big dog asleep on top of it, the dog opened ONE eye as I passed, wagged his tail once, and went back to sleep.

Parking areas and Taxi ways are mowed, and weather is improving!

Re: Leadore -July 4th- Show & Shine

I was headed to Mackay this AM, early, and didn't like the looks of the clouds near Borah, plus it started getting pretty bumpy though still over the Arco area. I was heading to what I call "Wolf Canyon", out of Antelope, that dumps you out near Carey, where I saw two huge wolf last winter whilst ski flying partway up it. Not a flight I'd chose cept for perfect early AM conditions, next time. I'll look out the window in the morning and make my decision. I don't use any weather apps, I am old school. #-o But when it's good, no other part of Idaho I'd rather fly. I also just really want to support the S&R, may need them some day, just seems right.

Mission accomplished, and it looked like a great turnout for the benefit of the Search and Rescue/fire department. I'd post a picture but my new phone is not allowing me to send one. I landed back at my strip in calm conditions right before noon, and not 20 minutes later the wind came up at a 90 to the "runway" and has not stopped since, I timed it perfect, I love it when that happens!

While up on a mountain top the other day, on my Sur Ron electric dirt bike, I took a few pictures of the area I had touched down at a few years earlier, getting a rock clear thru my stabilizer fabric while doing so, about 6" dia. Rocky takeoff area also. Putting the phone back in my bike's ditty bag, I dropped it, and MAYBE the same rock that caused the plane damage busted my screen, causing the usual modern day complications of all of a sudden being phoneless. thats why no picture.
