Leadville, CO Airport

Interesting thing today flying into Leadville (Lake Country) Airport here in Colorado. When I walked through the door I always look for "Nipper" the old cat. I asked the young lady at the desk where the cat was, figuring Nipper had finally gone west. She says the cat has left, along with the people who normally run the place. She told me the county has took over running the airport. Everything inside the main office is changed. Very neat and orderly. Hopefully the change is for the better. I didn't think to ask, but I hope they still give out certificates for landing at the highest airport in North America.

I guess I can consider myself lucky to have landed at Leadville before the change. Hope to see the rest of America before they change it.
America, Land of the free and Home of the brave. Think they will change that!?

Re: Leadville, CO Airport

I got a certificate back in the mid 90's. Took off and got up to 14000 ft to clear the mountain east of Leadville then downhill to Centennial. The friend with me was interested in RV-4's so we got a ride in one at Cent. and the guy gave me my first and only barrel rolls.

They need to repaint the hanger door. It seemed to be a little more visible/noteable when I first landed there.

Dan Jensen treated us like family on a visit there a couple years ago. Hope it stays a friendly small town FBO.
