leaky gascolator drain

I have found that MEK will disolve most everything but a bad relationship
That is Methyl Ethyl Ketone. Most hardware stores have with big letters MEK on the can. Believe it is the base solvent in most contact cements.

Your description sounds a bit like some old Aviation Form-a-gasket.

Yes it does. I was afraid to say that because I haven't seen that junk in a long time. Anybody that uses that crap ought to be made to clean it off. Usually it dries as hard as epoxy.

Most cements are acetone based, MEK is much much nastier.

Next time try some heat from a hair drier or heat gun, don't over do it just hot enough thats is uncomfortable to hold, it softens up pretty well with heat. :)
