Leaky MT Hub at 250 Hrs.-Watch- or - Send in for sevice

Hi All-

Looking for 1 or 2 educated opinions and of course alot of loud opinionated chatter for or against MT props. I went with the 3 blade MT in 2018, probably have 250hrs on it, and love it.

About 5 hours ago while making my way back west with the family got grease sprayed all over one blade and up on the windscreen. The grease leak seems to have stopped. MT Propeller USA says to clean everything and watch it for 10 hours, I am worried that I am low on lube up there and may have a more expensive repair later. It is out of warranty by 2 years.

Send it in or watch it?

Go!

I’m flying behind four MT props on four different airplanes and have had nothing but good experiences with the products and the company.

A big grease leak would definitely concern me. All of ours are flown often and remain nicely sealed.

I would call John Nielsen at McFarlane/Flight-resource for his recommendation, though I would lean towards pulling it because these kinds of things almost always lead to more significant problems if ignored.

I’m not sure about the terms of the warranty. Often times the months or years pass before the hours do.

Expect excellent customer service from Larry and John. They have always been very accessible by phone and email.

I had a similar leak at about 400 hours. I got different advice. I sent mine to a local authorized servicing dealer and had it resealed. About $800. Worth it for peace of mind and a clean windscreen. Not uncommon. I’m still a satisfied MT customer.

Thanks! I agree, I'll call John on Monday but I'll probably send it in for re-sealing.
