Re: Leaving for AK

No, but will be headed the opposite way a or so later.

A couple thoughts:

Vickie was on vacation last week, and while her stand in (Helen) serves a mean ice cream cone, she is no vickie with wx and village logistics in the trench. Look over the wx cams in the line shack.

Both Northway and Skagway are shorthanded (probably sent all their help to Yuma :-( )

Probably worth the call to make sure someone will make the drive to check you in before you commit to eapis and flight plan.

Hockey stick r&r was a walk in the park. Less than 2 days with a locally sourced serviceable part.

We'll try and cross paths, keep in touch.

Your plane or did you retrieve one up there and discovered the problem before leaving?????

Re: Leaving for AK

Hi Marty,
My plane, I was in the tail two years ago for the hinge blocks, and they were ok then.
How's the season looking? See ya in a couple weeks!

Take care, Rob

Russ, CAN gas pumps will scare the bejeezus out of you.... but *I think* it's actually pretty fair when you break it down. This was my Watson lake top off.Image

Russ, you may want to reconsider vacation plans. So far, we have had crap wx

Wife and I have been working our tails off

We've had to endure terrible living conditions

And had to survive off miserable camp food in the cold outdoors while fending off the wild beats

Not sure why you'd even consider such a trip? #-o

Regular planting date for some fields was the exception with most crops planted late and lots of bare spots because of too wet. Pretty sure it's like that around Rockwell City too.

Re: Leaving for AK

Maybe the weather will get better? The gas cheaper? and I'm not sure we'll be able to eat with moose staring at us. We're going to take our chances altho! leaving L26 in about an hour and a half. Stopping KBIH-E85-KPDT-and 0S7 for the nigh, crossing the border in the AM tomorrow. We're going to take our chances

Re: Leaving for AK

I was once asked while I was clearing customs southbound in Cutbank by some northbound dudes what the price of gas in Watson lake was.

My response was that:

a. Gas is delivered in liters there, and I can’t convert
b. Currency is in Canadian dollars and I don’t know the conversion rate.
c. There’s no way I’m spending the rest of my days in Watson, and there’s no gas for a looooong ways.

So, bottom line is.....it’s better not to worry about it.

Re: Leaving for AK

Just in case there's a question, a Canadian dollar is worth a little less than 76 cents.

I'll take it one step further - never add up how much aviation costs you. It's a certain path to talking yourself out of life with airplanes.

Re: Leaving for AK

Price in Wastson Lake is $1.96 CAD/ litre. Multiply by 3.785 litres/ USG, equals $7.42 Canadian dollars/ USG.

Mid market exchange rate today is $ 0.7567 USD/ CAD, which equates to $5.62 USD/USG.

Not actually that horrible considering you’re 1000 miles from the refinery where it’s produced, in a town where the capital and operating costs have to be spread over a pretty low volume.

I buy lots there, and I’m truly satisfied with the price.

Re: Leaving for AK

Yup, I've paid more for gas 20 miles away from home.

I was just funnin' at all the digits in both the volume and the price.

And I have use MTV's rationale to buy fuel in the bush, where paying twice this is a pretty good deal.

Got you message Russ, I'll be in the Wrangles this week.

Take care, Rob

Glidergeek, I think you called me about fuel and parking at Airdrie during the Stampede. Call me on your way south. Once I know your schedule, perhaps I can find you a hangar for a night or two.

This. For sure. Works in boating too. Maybe with children also.
