Legend Cub AL-3 on amphibs
Sometimes the most fun way to get into the backcountry, Part 103 Ultralights and Light Sport Aircraft have their own considerations.

I have a guy wanting to trade me a 2013 Legend Cub AL-3 on amphibs. They look like a nice toy, but curious about performance both on wheels and floats. He says the floats are made by Legend, but I am not sure if that's the case or not. It has 400 hours on the airframe, was ground looped and got a new wing, and then sometime later the engine was overhauled. It was a sudden stoppage, and it was said to have been torn down, but then was overhauled after it started leaking oil. Engine has 130hours. Sounds kind of fishy, still looking into all that. It does not have wheel gear. I am asking $135k for the plane he wants to trade for.
I am not really looking for an amphib, nor a J3. But it may be worth it in the trade.
Anyone have experience with one of these?

Legend's Cubs that I've seen are nice looking, and appear to be well built. Is this an Experimental, built from a kit, or one that Legend built?
I took a quick look at Legend's web site and they don't show anything about floats, so I'd be surprised if they built floats but didn't list them on their web site.
Basically, the Legend airplanes are pretty faithful reproductions of the various Cubs that Piper built. Everything I've seen suggests that the planes they build are very nice.
But, there are a LOT of questions you'll need to ask.

Legend made amphib floats for a short time after Baumann went under and left them with orders and no floats. They fiber glass of carbon fiber I believe. I only saw one set of 1500s.
