Re: Let's see your off airport approaches only

The Scottish highlands rank high on my list of places to visit, especially since I can't get enough of this stuff lately (skip to 0:46 for flying):

(sorry for the creep)

N-Jacko, where exactly are you? You mentioned an island near Solway Firth... Isle of Man??? 8)

Scotland is a common law country somewhat like England and the USA, so in general we can do as we please as long as we don't upset others or act recklessly, etc.

Our farm is in the south west, which is a low flying training area. Harriers are not a problem since some paperclip counter in the MoD thought he could fast-track to a knighthood by flogging them all to the US Navy to be broken for spares. That said, we do allow what's left of the RAF to practice with the few jets they can still afford to fuel, but (a) they have the good manners to publish their flying times well in advance and (b) they're not supposed to fly below 100 ft so our Maules and Cubs are quite safe as long as we stay in ground effect - and, of course, 500 ft away from any person, vehicle, vessel or structure.

Thanks for posting that amazing clip Zzz; real seat of pants flying with nowt but some bits of string and a glorified duvet cover!

Very cool video for me, I flew that line in 1988 in an early paraglider.

Here's what I fly now. Vargas Island, BC.

I think this is about as slow as a MX-7 can run aground without floats:
