Lightspeed 30-3G headset and Droid Phone
Avionics, airplane covers, tires, handheld radios, GPS receivers, wireless Wx uplink...any product related to backcountry aircraft and flying.
I have a set of Lightspeed 3D headsets, and used to use the phone plugin a lot. It worked great, and sound quality was excelent. People I was talking to didn't even know I was flying. That all chaned however, when I purchased a Droid phone. I have not been able to plug my phone into the 3G headset and get it too work. It seems I can hear people, but they can't hear me. I also can't dial a call when the headset is plugged in. I have been able to dial a call, then plug in the Droid, and I can have a conversation, but sound quality is very bad on both ends.
Anybody else have this problem? Any suggestions?

Buy the Zulus and use the Bluetooth, they are lightyears better than the 30-3gs.

Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

Sounds like the cord is not making a proper connection with the phone. Make sure it is the correct one and is seating properly.

This is my assessment as well. The droid input/output is a 3.5mm stereo jack with a 3rd contact for input. On my iPhone, the headphones also double as a mic/headset, and because of this the male plug has 3 rings/contacts.
So what you need is an appropriate cord that gives you all three contacts on both ends, both 3.5mm. Old cellphone male plugs were 2.5mm.

Call Lightspeed ask them about it, chances are they will just comp you the correct plug, at least that's what they did for me. I had the same problem with my phone and 30-3G headset.
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks for the input. I would love to go with the new Zulu and bluetooth, but too many other items top the wish list.
I will check out the 3 contact cords and try that. I really miss being able to use the phone. I contacted lightspeed about this problem a year ago, and they said they couldn't help. They said too many brands of cell phones, and it wasn't their responsibility to make sure their headsets were compatable with them all.
If I can't make it work, I will bang lightspeed again. Maybe I just got the wrong techie that day.
Thanks again.

This is what I would use if I was doing the same with my iPhone:
http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-354mm-2.htm"TRRS" is Tip, Ring, Ring, Sleeve, adding that 4th conductor in there beyond just what you would need for headphones.
The question is: Does your Droid phone use the same 3.5mm female jack for headphones and headset like an iPhone?

Zane,
I will try the TRRS. I think the Droid does use the 3.5 female jack. When I use the cords provided by LS I can talk over the phone, when I dial first then plug in the headset, but I have to talk very loud in order for people to hear me, and the sound quality is very bad.
However, thinking about what I just wrote, it may be that the droid doesn't have a mike connection in the female 3.5 jack, and the voice people can hear when I talk is just picked up by the mic on the phone sitting on my lap. That would explain why I have to talk real loud and sound quality is poor.
I will try the TRRS, and see if that works.
Thanks,

I think Zane is onto the cable idea... I have the same issue with my Droid phone with both the 30G and the Zulu. I have to use the bluetooth to get it to work on zulu. Even Worse on teh Zulu is it cuts the call off after about 15-20 seconds if using the wire

Bonanza - I have the Motorola Droid X. It is about a year and a half old.
I think I have found a solution. I purchase an adaptor for $7.00 that goes from the 2.5mm jack to the 3.5mm jack. One of the cords originally provided by LS was a 2.5mm with a TRS. The adaptor goes from the original 2.5 TRS, and plugs a 3.5mm TRRS into my droid. That seems to have solved the problem. I was able to call, talk, and hang up all while being connected to the 30-3G battery box with the adaptor setup. Volume and sound quality was very good. The only thing I don't know yet, is whether or not I will be able to answer incoming calls.
Thanks for all the help.
