Lightspeed: New Zulu vs old Zulu

http://www.lightspeedaviation.com/New_Zulu_Series/subgrouping.htm?cat=32797

Was just perusing the Lightspeed website thinking again about doing the trade-up program. I've been using a pair of Zulus lately, and I went back to my old 20-3G's today and NOW I can hear the difference.

Has anyone had a chance to try the new ones? Trade-up for those doesn't start until this fall. Just wondering how much better they are.

Re: Lightspeed: New Zulu vs old Zulu

Hi Zane... I have two pairs of the 20 - 3G's and love them.. My hangar mate bought the Zulu's at Osh last year and everytime I go flying in his plane I wear the Zulu's... In my opinion there is a sound difference and the bluetooth is a real nice bonus. Several times I thought about going with the trade up program but adding neat stuff to my experimental comes first. I didn't know there was a new generation of Zulu's coming out... care to share the details ?

Ben.

Re: Lightspeed: New Zulu vs old Zulu

Does the new Zulu set let you switch the cord from the left side to the right? I built the center console jacks into my Tundra and with a left side cord plugged in there it had to drape across my lap to get there. The Zulu phones I tried at Osh last summer had good sound deadening though and were comfortable except for the perennial baseball cap button problem. The Bose A20 I tried had a top hinge point that made room for the button and the cord could be switched to either right or left side. My two cents for a high dollar question.

Re: Lightspeed: New Zulu vs old Zulu

I didn't think the new ones cam out till next month? Would be interested in knowing if you can get them somewhere sooner, I am in need of a new headset.

The one thing I wish Bose and lightspeed would incorporate is a removeable battery box. That way you could make your own plane panel mount, yet use the same headset with batteries in a pinch... Headsets inc kits are like that and it sure makes flying someone else s airplane nice!

Take care, Rob

I've never tried on the Zulus, but my 20-3G's you can just flip the mic boom over the other side, and flip the headset around so the earcup where the cord connects is on the desired side.

Re: Lightspeed: New Zulu vs old Zulu

This is a Lightspeed reply to my query about the new sets. I had just traded my 30-3G's for Zulus when I heard about the new version they announced at NoSun and NoFun. As an FYI, I've found the Zulus to be much better than the 30-3G's in sound quality, attenuation, and comfort.

Thank you for your email.

A trade up from original Zulu to the new Zulu is not available at this time. You do, however, have a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you’d like to return your Zulu and place a pre-order for the new one, you may do so within 30-days of purchase. New Zulu pre-orders will begin shipping end of June to early July. If you’d like earlier delivery (late May) , you can order from any authorized Lightspeed dealer.

We continually work to improve our products and like to have something new available every 3-4 years. The current Zulu is a great headset, the new Zulu is a little quieter, a little better fidelity (especially for music) and a little less clamping pressure. Either way, you're getting a great headset.

Thanks and let me know if I can be of any further help on this.

Anyone know if you can stream music by Bluetooth to multiple Zulu headsets from one device? I can connect 2 Zulus to my iPhone but as soon as you go to stream music it will only go to one headset at a time. Perhaps it's just not possible?

I don't think so. That would be a useful feature on the new Zulus. I usually just end up playing XM through the 496 which goes to both headsets.

Re: Lightspeed: New Zulu vs old Zulu

Sort of off topic I guess . . . I considered the Zulu, old and new, and also the Bose A20. I currently have two Bose X, and although they work okay in my Mooney, they don't work well at all when towing gliders in a Pawnee (the loud cabin overwhelms the ANR unless clamping pressure is way up).

I just ordered a new Sennheiser S1 digital. I'll compare it to my friends A20 and old Zulu. 30 day return, so not a lot of risk. Has nice feature set. We'll see.

I'm pretty interested in the new S1 especially for the cub. I also use Bose right now so be very interested to hear how they compare. The reviews sure look good.

Ok, so how did it work out? I'm interested in either the new Zulu the old Zulu or the Sennheiser S1. The treble boost in the S1 is a nice feature. I'd like to know how it worked out. Especially in the Pawnee.

I don't know why you guys spend so much on head sets. I have a pair I found in the dumpster at the airport, they work great. Them Zulus are way over priced.

Cheers...Rob
