Links to forum topics from user profiles don't seem to work

Hello! Mostly a lurk and educate myself with on this site and as a result, I'm in user profile pages often, especially those who seem to be in the same boat as I am. I've noticed that when I'm on a profile page and there is a thread they've commented on that I'd like to read, when I click the forum link, I am redirected back to BackcountryPilot.org. For example, on MTV's profile page, https://backcountrypilot.org/community/295mtv/profile, when I click the "Learn To Turn" link, I just get taken back to the homepage. This is consistent across all user profiles for me.

1. MacOS Catalina (10.15.7)
2. Chrome
3. CenturyLink
4. Clicking a link to a forum topic on a user's profile page
5. Rather than being directed to the thread on the forum, I am redirected to the main page.
6. I have deleted my cookies and cache and have tried this multiple times. It appears to only redirect the forum thread links. I can click the "like" and "comment" links and they work without issue.

I dug through this forum section looking for a previously reported issue but couldn't find anything. Sorry if this is a known issue and I'm just clogging up your inbox!

It's a known issue - has been like that for as long as I as I can remember. It's a bummer I wish it worked. I think Zzz posted about it one time & said he spent a bit trying to fix it but couldn't find the problem and just didn't have the cycles.

I know. Everytime I dive into fixing the problem, the same game is afoot: should I pay someone to help me fix this? I'm going to rebuild the site soon anyway....it'll be fine for a little while longer.

So, sorry. Probably not going to tackle that bug before the site is replaced.

Anymore issues, contact support@ directly.

I completely understand. Thanks for the response.

Now when I come across a thread in a user profile, I just google
site: www.backcountrypilots.org [thread title]
and am generally taken right to it.

That works. I suggest using "backcountrypilot.org" instead of "backcountrypilots.org" since the latter is just a redirect to the former. Here's a neat trick if you use Google Chrome:

Add a shortcut Google search engine for a particular domain by going to Chrome preferences > Search Engine > Manage Search Engines. Click the Add button and this dialog comes up:

Enter that info and this as the URL:
Code: Select all
https://www.google.com/search?aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=%s+site%3Abackcountrypilot.org

Now you can type "bcp" into the address bar, hit Tab, and the search will be constrained to only this domain.

You can also use the forum search to search for users' threads. This may be necessary if it's in a non-crawlable subforum like Marketplace.

Every user has a post count under their name in the user block of a given post. The number is linked and will perform a search showing all their post activity.

THIS IS SLICK. Although I should have known, I didn't know that you could "shortcut" this action in Chrome. Thanks for the tip.
