most pic seem to forget vfr flight following is granted based on a controllers workload and even then isn't required of a controller to provide, and even when granted you as pic are required to maintain vfr and are still responsible for your own separation. remember vfr advisories are provided as a controllers workload allows, if you want or need controllers to maintain your ac separation file ifr.

If your friend flys a lot, then most likely the controllers recognize his voice... When talking to pilots everyday, controllers learn whos flying the ac and their ability level and will handle those pilots accordingly. if we recognize your a good pilot then we have the ability to slide you into a slot a lot of other pilots flying the same type of ac wouldn't get...

Man ya got that right. Especially when the weather is down. I won't ever say that "miracles" don't happen, but it's amazing how 1/4 mile and 100 can suddenly turn into a mile when you're sitting just outside the zone gathering ice and losing airspeed in your C207. Those FSS guys are my heros, and if they need me to do something with my airplane, all I ask is, "How high, and how fast?

I can't believe this guy. I would like to add a SES rating after I finish my tailwheel but I will be damned if I pay to sit in the cockpit and take instruction from an a-hole like that! I wonder what his student learned about CRM that day: hmmm how to piss off controllers, how to have a big ego amid an emergency in progress, how to sound like a grumpy whiney little bitch. We all get our inconvenient vectors. It's part of life. When I used to write the flight schedule for my old squadron, I would tell they guys, "Hey we all get our screw jobs and your is tomorrow. Sorry." Most took it with a laugh but there were those few whiney little bitches. This guy sounds just like them.

As for the controllers in SMF and Nor-Cal, I have a buddy who works up there. They are in fact under-staffed. The FAA is losing its collective mind. When they start telling controllers to go home and put on a collared shirt and tie instead of caring about how the job gets done, you know it's bad. Know how ATC is getting an auto-tattle system for altitude deviations? Well some pin-head came up with it for traffic seperation on final (no closer than 3 miles). so in the near future, instead of letting pilots do their thing on final, the controllers aren't going to take a chance and are going to put you 4 miles behind instead of 3-1/4 and letting you ride in. Congestion is only going to get worse.

Sorry for the tangent but this guy really pissed me off. I think I'll go send him some fan mail too.

Cheers!

Just when I'm ready to pull the trigger on buying my own plane, life gets in the way. Well to hell with that!

Re: Listen to a Real Professional in Action

He's back. I resurrected this old thread for those of you who had not seen it in 2007 or realized who this guy is. He is the one advertising today May 18, 2009, for someone to do the Maule ride out of Manitoba to Florida with him. A very important person. Ask him. Steve

Looks like the original mp3 recording is lost, as the domain hosting it is no longer alive. Did anyone save it?

Re: Listen to a Real Professional in Action

Just get this when I click on the link:

Sorry, we couldn't find www.jjgrantham.net

Anyone got a working link I could listen to this on?
Why did the link dry up?
Is he powerful enough to get the mp3 redacted somehow?

He will be remembered a long time for that stunt. I am sure he won't be welcome if he goes back to Alaska. Here is his website http://www.flyfloatplanes.com/ least we start to forget who he is. Steve

I just listened for the first time. I wonder if the FAA got involved. Jeez, if you can't afford an extra 5-10 minutes of fuel your in the wrong biz.

Steve,

I don't think he was ever in Alaska. This occurred near Orlando, FL. (Sanford airport, actually). That's near the neighborhood where he bases.

For some reason whenever I click on the links they appear to be broken. Has anyone copied the audio?

Geez, I don't normally jump on the gang beatings, but this guy was a real piece of work! The controllers had WAY more patience wit him than I would have, I'd have told him to contact moron approach on 123.bite me.
What a dip!

Re: Listen to a Real Professional in Action

I copied the audio file. I'm not sure how to post an Audio file on BCP. :?: I also wonder why the two sites that had a link are not running anymore. Legal issue? Too many people hitting the site?

I tried to PM the file to RJW but message won't allow me to attach it. Keeps telling me the Extension is not allowed though I've tried changing it and even eliminating it. :| If someone knows how to get it to work, PM me and I'll send them the file.

Kinda makes you wonder where the audio file came from?

Maybe those controllers have more than one way to even the score!

I've intentionally disabled the attachment feature for the forum. You can upload it to the photo gallery and use the BBcode URL field to retrieve the direct URL. Hosting audio files is not the primary design of the photo gallery though and so it doesn't present them well, but it works.

I haven't really put much thought into the best way to host non-image files, but I do know that I want a central media hosting solution in lieu of having them attached to forum posts.

Rats. At 6.3mb, I'm not able to upload the file to my photo album. Any other suggestions? I'll look at another solution, as well, when I have more time.
