Looking for ideas..........

Hi everyone. I've just been accepted into this group and it's good to see so many postive, enthusiastic aviators here. I live in Dryden, Ontario which is 80NM north of Intl Falls Minn. This is a huge tourist area for the outdoorsman. Uncountable lakes with and abundance of walleye, northern pike, musky, lake trout, bass, you name it. Moose, deer and bear hunting are also very popular here. My buddy and I are the proud owners of a 1970 Cessna 180H which we keep on floats but also has wheels and skis. Engine is an 0470R with 350 hours on it and next prop insp is 2018. We keep it on a ramp at the Dryden Flying Club (there is a Facebook page) We just don't seem to get much use out of it but we don't want to sell it either. We are considering two more partners for a four way split. It seems a bit complicated as I read the threads on this site about how to write up agreements, etc. I've owned the plane about 25 years and had one partner for 17 years and now this one for 4 years. We use it only to fly out to remote lakes for fishing and only managed to do that 10 times this past summer. I fly for a living and he lives 800 miles away and comes up here for periods of time to enjoy the area. I'm qualified to teach and certify float pilots and also have an Engineers lic but would like someone that enjoys doing maintenance to help out. Don't know if there is any interest but thought I'd just put this out there.

Re: Looking for ideas..........

Hey and welcome. Nice to see Dryden represented. I passed an afternoon there watching water bombers fly practice runs, while waiting on a tach cable.

Good luck with your 180.

Thanks for the welcome. Been flying water-bombers here for 24 years. Will hang it up and retire very shortly.

Re: Looking for ideas..........

Any room for another charter service? When I lived in Kenora (on Rabbit Lake) there was only Rusty's.
If you're gonna retire, maybe a good & fun way to make a few Xtra bucks.
You've probably already thought that through, you asked for ideas. :)

Re: Looking for ideas..........

Thanks Matt. Will have to learn how to post pics here. As I said, not that great with technology. In retirement I do intend to go back a few decades in my life and fly a Norseman or Single Otter in the tourist business again.....part time. Float pilots are in big demand these days. Thats another reason I'd like to hand the trusty C180 over to someone else. Then I'm free to travel without worrying about it.

I'm new here too and got lost in the post a picture help thread. I'm also not great on tech but this works for me.
1. Start a photobucket.com account.
2. Press upload
3. Once you have image uploaded, on the right side is a image links box. U should see "direct link"
4. Right click and copy link.
5. Paste link between " [img] [img] " on your post.

Hope that helps...we r all in this together !!!

Here's one I used to own.Image

Re: Looking for ideas..........

Thanks for your help BKN, Matt navigated me through it. It's just plain embarassing when your tiny Grand-Daughter teaches you things. It wasn't that long ago when there wasn't any computers. What a nice looking bird. Looks like many hours of polishing happened here.

That's the gist of it, but it doesn't have to be Photobucket. It can be any photo hosting service. You should learn how to copy the URL of an image though without using that method. You simply right-mouse click in one of the good browsers like Firefox, Safari, or Chrome, and choose "Copy Image URL." It's the same thing but can be used for any image, anywhere on the internet.

Here's a tutorial video I made last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzvJACyEze0

Re: Looking for ideas..........

trying the photobucket deal. This was Friday night testing out the new Fairchild exhaust manifold. This F-24W was converted to a Continental W670 220 hp radial. (basically an old Waco firewall forward)

Embedded photobucket video via BBcode isn't going to happen. Their URL syntax is too weird. The link will have to suffice.

I can't tell what the original URL of your Google video was, so I'm afraid I can't help with the BBcode usage.

Re: Looking for ideas..........

I didn't want to take the time to edit and post it to Vimeo (just a 20 something second unedited clip of running the Continental and watching the flame coming out of the stacks) But, will have to in future. 8)

Re: Looking for ideas..........

This one was is a 1946 model F-24W and I know it was in Seattle for a while. It went to Grand Marias, MN and was based on Devil's Track lake as a floatplane. It then went to Hinckley, MN for many years, stuck in a hangar on a private strip. Ben picked it up on June of last year, brought it to Brainerd and is spending his $$$ fixing all the things that happen to airplanes that sit for a while.... But fun to fly and a delight on the controls. It bangs, coughs and snorts like a typical Continental W670 radial when cold, but it's a reliable old low compression motor with lots of parts available. (and more power than the orig Warner)

Re: Looking for ideas..........

Love to see a picture of the 220 F24.
Looked at a 220 Continental and a 300 Lycoming
24 and went to Serv Aero in CA to see about their
STC.
Useful wasn't very on both I looked at.

I must be missing something....I guess what I am looking at is an exhaust manifold. But it looks more like a Black Bear hibernating deep in a cave in January.
