Looking for Sand Wash Utah Pirep

Headed for float trip next week on the Green River from Sand Wash put in , ending at the town of Green River . Planning to drop the family and gear at Sand Wash UT. Airstrip, then park the 206 at the Green River airstrip and hop the Red Tail aviation shuttle from there back to the put in . Anyone been into Sand wash lately ? I remember someone on here saying that they got a job driving the 207 at Red Tail. Any first hand info on Sand wash Strip would be awesome . Thanks !!

Re: Looking for Sand Wash Utah Pirep

The strip at Sand wash is always about the same. Kinda rocky.
I havent needed to go in there for years but.....

I would say be very careful!!!
It is plenty long and can be very easy if the wind is not out of the south!

But.....
It can be very nasty with not much of a wind out of the south.
I have thousands of landings there and for the most part would only go early in the am 9 at the latest 6 is best.
The way the strip lays the wind comes up over the cliff at the south side and curls over the runway. it will get you on short final and it will take every control you have and full power on and off at times to get it on the ground then you have to clean your upholstery!

Lots of times it is perfectly nice but watch that south wind!

Sounds good . Wife and kids will love it , planning to drop the family and gear at Sand wash early early then flying to Green River to park the plane . Air taxi back to Sand Wash leaves Green River 715 .am ..... that's the rough plan so far .

How did this trip go? I pulled a late August permit. Considering shuttling family and gear with the 180 and a 185. Thinking it'd be easier to rent the rig from moab then fly something out from Denver.

Re: Looking for Sand Wash Utah Pirep

Float trip was super fun , I blew off the whole shuttle in the 206 thing . Didn't feel like paying for Red Tail Shuttle and Didn’t want to leave the plane at sand wash While we were on the river for 10 days . Glad I didn’t bother because the wind blew about 40 almost the whole trip . Logistics just didn’t work out . Sometimes easier to just load up the suburban and suffer through driving .....
