Not necessarily information about airstrips or airports, but more general info about a greater area or a route of flight.

Looking for tie down or hanger NW of Phoenix, AZ

I'll be living in Surprise, AZ, in the winters, making me not only a "snowbird", but an old fart. I'd like to find a dirt strip, old road, or some other informal place to fly my plane from that would have some measure of security, and be located between Surprise and Wickenburg. If any of your Arizona folks have ideas where to keep my plane, I'd be grateful.

thanks,
tom

It's been a while since I was down there, but there is a glider operation just south of lake Pleasant, and it has a few hangars there, and some tiedowns. Can't remember the name, but it would be on a chart.

I did a quick search on GoogleEarth and saw a bunch of dirt fields in that area. At least one of them is an abandoned USAAF field (Luke Aux). I'm not sure how you would contact the current owners. Turf is likely the most civilized of the bunch.

I figured I'd print off the map and go searching.

Go to http://skyvector.com/ and type in E25 in the box at the upper left corner. When Wickenburg comes up, scroll just a little Southeast. I know a guy that lives at Castle Well Airpark, and a guy at Thunder Ridge.
If you go straight North of Wickenburg, I also know someone at Morton Airpark.
If you're interested in any of these, I can get you some contact numbers.
I have also heard that the City of Peoria is thinking about buying Pleasant Valley Airport (P48) where Turf Soaring is located and possibly paving it. It would probably be a pretty good investment to put up a hangar there if that happens.

Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

Thanks for the continuing tips. I'll be investigating those. I'm really looking forward to new territory to explore.
