That'd be... "Lunar-Rocke-tics"?

If I recall, the "official" nickname for the M5 is or was Lunar Rocket. If this play on words is what you were already referring to, forgive me being slow on the up-take #-o

Trust me, you will not have any trouble in this briar patch finding someone to advise you to "just buy a Maule". Fortunately you will also find quite a bit of expertise and assistance from knowledgeable Maule guys.

Yup -- Lunar Rockets -- a bit of dry sarcasm on my part to stir the pot.

Its a M5-220C version with the Franklin -- I know all the Maule this and that -- looking for long time owner/s of M5's with the Frank 220.

This is NOT a what to buy thread.

I'd advise that if you really want several informative responses, edit the name of this thread to more accurately indicate the question.

The insurance will go way way down as you get hours. I pay 1860 a year on a M7 115K hull coverage.
I paid 6500 my first year. I had zero tailwheel time.

My first year of Maule insurance on my M-4 210 was right at $2k. Hull value at $45k with only 400TT and 0 tailwheel. Should be substantially reduced after flying it for a year. I would be glad to refer you to my agent if interested.

Who was the underwriting company? Once an agent starts quoting another agent can't come in and quote from the same underwriting company. We will see what comes about today but I might just pick up a way less capable plane, fly it for 200hrs and then get a Maule. Except logic vs wants/desires gets in the way!

Yes, I have been down that path -- a couple in my price range didnt work out and i realized how much fun I have had flying Tail Wheel this past summer that I want to improve the stick/rudder skills.

A friend had that same problem when he got some quotes for a 182. So what the did was use an N number for a different 182 but just a few numbers off, then he went to the agent with the best quote and said oops, I made a mistake. It worked for him.

M5-220c Lunar Rockets with Franks

Aerospace Insurance Managers has my policy. They were the only company that would give me a quote for the Maule with zero tail wheel time.

3K will be the cheapest thing you do with an airplane. If you put 100 hours on in 1 year probably drop to 1600 year 2 cost even less if you have no claims. NEVER fly without insurance unless you can afford the cost of total replacement!

Got some reasonable quotes in the $1300-$1600 range. Not a Cessna 172 quote but better. Now to investigate further.

Well, fortunately, it won't exactly fly like a 172 either.

Can't put a price on fun!

Yup! Its basically down to 2 different planes - 1 is cheaper/good flyer Stinson 108-3 with a ton of work done to it and the other is the Maule (will need engine overhaul in 200 hrs and the price reflects -- but still a strong engine). $12k difference in price and yes I know much different animals but both will provide a grin factor.
