Wow that's awesome that Ladd stepped up to fill the slot. Unfortunately I will be in Europe on a business trip. :-(

I'd like to make that. Maybe I'll shoot up there for Friday at least.

Just an FYI. Mack is now 10CO not C07. Depends on what database your are using for your flight info.
Your tax dollars at work.
The local high country strips are in good shape after the winter. I will post a video of Willow and PR springs in a little bit. Dolores is in excellent shape as is Pinyon and Robert's.

It looks like a 20 cent per gallon discount will be given to all who register prior to the fly-in. Who is in?

Re: Mack Mesa Fat Tire Jamboree - May 16/18

I checked out a few more of the high country strips above mack on Easter.
I've posted a video on the "where did you fly today" thread of a couple of them on the Bookcliffs.

We are working on a list of potential strips to have as stops on the Poker Run.
If anyone has a preference, please post it here or drop me a pm.
Also, what distance would you prefer between strips?
Cedar and Mexican Mountain are right around 90 miles if we want to add those.
There are plenty in the 15 to 50 mile range.

By mutual agreement with Dee, I'm out after we just dumped some cash into new avionics. With any luck, I'm hoping it will be getting that gear installed. I'll miss seeing everyone there, but look forward to seeing everyone at Garden Valley in June.

Re: Mack Mesa Fat Tire Jamboree - May 16/18

Weather forecast looking good.

Anyone else headed up from Texas? I don't have a huge amount of mountain experience, so if anyone would be willing to guide me along or offer a good route in I'd appreciate it.

Looking forward to the Jamboree!

Re: Mack Mesa Fat Tire Jamboree - May 16/18

The weather forecast for the Jamboree is beginning to look like a great weekend to be attending. With all the activities planed on the ground and in the sky, it should be a great time for all. I am looking forward to spending time with everyone at Mack Mesa.

Make sure to register please!

Almost 4 days of rain over the last week and cooler temps have made the desert strips just about perfect.
The grass at Mack is lush and green on the runway and the camping area.
The weekend weather is forecast to be Sunny and clear with temps in the 70s and 80s.
Cool temps at night with cloudless skies will make for a pleasant evening for the campers to enjoy all the great food and Gary's Margs.
For the mountain bikers in the mix, the local single track trails are in the best shape they will be in all year and a new trail was just added last week that is destined to be a classic. (check out the "sarlacc trail" on the popular tube site)
High Country, Low Country and the desert in between. This weekend is shaping up to be one of the best all year.
Hope to see a lot of BCP pilots this weekend.

I wish I could attend, but I need to stay back and work this weekend. The forecast looks much better than last weekend!

Have a great fly-in!

Re: Mack Mesa Fat Tire Jamboree - May 16/18

A couple of pilots have asked about MOGAS. There is none on field, but there is usually a courtesy car available and a station a few miles away in Loma.
If I get a chance I will stage some empty gas cans in my hangar. Check with Ladd. Plenty of Avgas available at a discount for those who have preregistered.
It looks like we will have about 10 strips available on the poker run at varying distances and difficulties. So it should be easy to find 5 that suit anyone's agenda.

FYI. Ruby Canyon on the Colorado river just a few miles south of Mack has two wire obstructions that are high enough to come into play for low level flights. One is a cable about 15 feet up across the river. The other is a power line about 30 feet up also across the river. The power line is fairly visible. The cable is not until you are right on top of it.
Desolation Canyon on the Green River west of Mack has no obstructions from Sandwash to end of the canyon north of the town of Green River. Both rivers will be filled with rafters and kayakers enjoying the warmer weather and the spring run-off.
