Had a great time at Mack this weekend, as always. Not a huge turnout, but lots of fun was had by those who came.
Got there the first night and had to try my new solar lights out for HSF. They worked so well, even my tent was happy about them.

Flew over to Mexican Mountain and did some fun canyon flying (video to follow, one of these days).

Then flew over to Hidden Splendor, one of my favorite places in the world.

How's this for a camp spot? Also gives a good view of the east canyon approach to Splendor. I got up close and personal with the canyon, and managed to capture some video worth keeping!

Aerial view of Hidden Splendor airstrip.

It's not possible to describe how pretty this place is.

I finally broke down and got myself a real brain bucket. HGU-55 (Air Force flight helmet). If nothing else, we've had a lot of birds this fall, and as much low flying as I do, it'll be nice to have the 600 mph visor between me and the wayward bird, rather than the $20 sunglasses I usually wear. So far, I really like the helmet. I gutted the military comms and just cannibalized a set of DCs I had by cutting the ear cups down to fit, which gave me GA comms without the need for an adapter.
Phillip getting it done in his Carbon Cub. If anybody is ever looking for good backcountry instruction in the Grand Junction area, Phillip is your guy.

There was some stiff competition in the spot landing contest--this one didn't win!

Phillip won so much hardware his son had to help him hoist it for the picture!

A Chipmunk did some acro and a fly-by this morning.

Fly-out to Elizabeth's Meadow with some backcountry friends.

Not a very good picture, but this is a mountain lion track on the trail up to the big rock overlook.
