MANDATORY SERVICE BULLETIN - MSB05-8B - Thoughts / Facts?

Hey Everyone,

Im trying to get a grasp on the new "Mandatory Service Bulletin - MSB05-8B" (March 31st 2017) - I couldn't find a thread on it yet, but would like to hear your thoughts. Figured I could open the door.... Im sure there are a few part 91 guys out there searching for answers.

I've got a call out to a contact at the NTSB, waiting to hear what he says. (unofficially)

Thank you for those who chime in. Cheers.

Good luck to all you big bore boys.
I vote lawyers.

Time to see if AOPA will spend your dues on your behalf.

Not much of a cynic. :^o

Although not in the MSB (yet) another thing to think about is that this "technically" is effecting PPonk -50 engines if they were built from a 520 rather than a O-470U. Its a real bummer.

Another case of the manufacturers corporate lawyers trying to pass on the costs of the company's incompetence to the customers. I bet if TCM was required to pay for this out of their pockets, this would go away real fast. Just because some ham fisted Bonanza pilot has one failure doesn't justify this. Unless the numbers show a trend of failures, this needs to be put down fast. As another point, you have to wonder what TCM is thinking here? If you try and force owners of all these engines to overhaul prematurely, they will price quite a few out of doing so and you will see many marginal airframes parted out. Ever shrinking market for their big bore line. #-o

I'm going to wait till i panic, but the thread over at BeechTalk is pretty epic. Gotta register to see it but, 14 pages and counting. Evidently the lion-share of the Beech guys could be affected and they are hammering the continental reps at S&F as well as on the tech line. One of the guys reached out to AOPA and they are on it.

I hate to be cynical but this has CYA written all over it as well as pushing the risk/liability to the customer.

Hate to see this. Price of a ride to town in Alaska is gonna go up. Don't think the 135 folks will get out of it unless it gets kicked over.

Sort of understand their fear of liability though. Imagine if TCM just threw hands in the air and said no more. Then we would really be screwed.

I already registered, waiting approval. I feel like I'm "sneaking" into their little club. Ha.

FWIW: Double check with your insurance, apparently some MSB's void your coverage. Every insurance company is different, better to be safe then sorry ... you know those "guys" will look for any reason not to payout.
