Marble, CO fly-in. Sept 11-13 - CPA event.

I'm planning on attending this event. Mostly likely fly in Fri and leave Sat. It's a beautiful airstrip (the Gallegos family is extremely generous for doing this!) and the town of marble is quite the place. It would be nice to see some other BCPers there.

Hi Matt, I have been pondering how I could make the Creede and Marble fly ins. There is just to much time in between. It looks like I can only do the Creede one. So have fun and take some pictures.

Cheers...Rob

Matt, I will be there unless I sell my plane by then. I am planning on arriving Sat morning and leaving early Sunday. The fly rod is ready to go. May do the Jeep tour. Signed up for the dinner as well. Bill
P.S. See you this weekend at the CD15 fly-in. Plan on camping friday night and leaving early sat to fly Young Eagles at 00V.

Did a little campsite scouting today for the CPA Fly-In at Marble next weekend. I call dibbs on this site. Marble slabs surrounding the campfire area and a trout stream about 30 yards into the trees. Grass strip is in excellent shape.

Well my plans changed a bit, sounds like I'll be attending Sat-Sun. And I picked up a co-pilot (Katie). Bill, what time are you leaving? Maybe we could tag along?

Nice pics Bill... room for two?

Matt, glad to hear Katie will be joing you. Tell her I'm pretty sure there won't be any watermellons falling out of the sky. My dad arrives at COS at 1:40 on Friday and we plan on heading up right after, that is if the weather is good. If the weather is iffy we will head up Saturday morning around 7am. I'll keep you posted if want can't go up until Sat. You are more than welcome to fly two ship with us. I fly Ute Pass, Wilkerson Pass, Trout Creek Pass, up past Leadville, Hagerman Pass, north of Aspen, McClure Pass, and then into the canyon to Marble along the Crystal River. Pretty spectacular mountain flying if you haven't been that way. Oh by the way, I don't really have dibbs on that spot. First come first serve but everyone does tend to take the camping areas on the West end of the strip. The place I was parked at could fit about 3 planes. Jim D usually parks there but he's not sure if they can make it this year.

Well, we didn't make it due to weather. We left our strip at 8, stopped by KAPA to get some fuel and by the time we hit Buena Vista the wx was pretty bad. I decided to call it and we headed home for a lazy weekend.

I'm kinda bummed, but I hope everyone else had a good weekend up there. Bill, post up some pics.

My dad and I had an awesome time at the Marble Fly-In. Huge thanks to the Gallegos family for having us and to CPA for setting it up. Met a bunch of friendly people including several BCP guys there. Pretty dicy weather getting there and back. Probably kept a lot of people away. We got stuck doing the approach to the west which is less desirable due to being a narrower down hill into the sun but the guy that landed just before us highly recommended against landing east due to a 10 knot tailwind. It all worked out well. Think we had about 22 airplanes and 1 helicopter and a bunch of drive ins. A little cold Friday night, frost on the planes in the early morning, warmed to 33 by 0700. Somewhere around 70 people showed up for the BBQ dinner Saturday night catered by Woody's in Marble. Great food and great live music. Hung out around one of several camp fire circles. Lots of good stories. A bit windy Sunday morning for departures. Nothing like taking off downwind in a narrow canyon at 7900' elevation. Think I gained a few gray hairs. Was surprised to see the mountains covered in white stuff when we climbed out of the valley. Anyhow, here are some of my pictures.

Marble airstrip, about smack dab in the middle of the picture. 14er to the south and 13er to the north. ~3800' usable grass strip. Field Elevation ~7900'

Making our way around the canyon counter clockwise and descending

Still coming down. Schofield Pass to the right.

Yep, I was saying the same thing. Damn sun! Runway straight ahead.

Almost down, just over the ridge and drop in over the trees.

Right down the chute. They promised me my skywagon would fit if I kept it centered.

A little fly fishing

Sunday departure, hit the O2 and climbed to 15500

Stay tuned Ernie, Flynbeekeeper is trying to work some details on a private grass strip addition to Creede for the night before. Hopefully he will post the info as soon as he gets it on the Creede Fly-In thread.

Let's hope the wx is better for Creede than what we hit trying to get to Marble.

Here's a couple pics - we turned around about 20 East of Buena Vista. There's always next year.
