Comparable insurance quote vs OGMaules and 59 Wagon.
2000+ in type, 4000+TW. This year for wagon @ $130K no deductibles, $1600.
As a 26 hour student pilot in 2011 got the wagon to finish PPL and insurance was $3800 for $60K.
Sounds like Maule may not be so bad comparatively, my initial policy was not great coverage. Current policy is best coverage I have found. There is certainly cheaper out there, but full of restrictions etc. Got quotes for a Maule at same value at same time for PPL, and remember the best quote being about $4600. Similar dual instruction requirements with like 5 more hours for Maule.
Would love to own a Maule someday, and have Maule baggage door envy big time. I haul a lot of shit and having to remove the door and the seat, then throw my back out getting big/heavy stuff up in there on 31's, is certainly more of a hassle comparatively. It's not a big deal really, but way simpler with the Maule or a 206.
As far as the wagon drivers that "come down hard" on Maules, I just have to call them on their bullshit! Seriously, I have no stick time in a Maule, but have flown with plenty of Maule owners and have always been impressed with the performance.
