Similar design to a McCauley with a Lycoming style flange. Very nice props and I can confirm more durable than an MT!

I read that Whirlwind used to us a McCauley hub but now make their own that is basically the same. I don't know this for sure but I'm going to call Whirlwind and find out if I can use my current hub with their blades.

Clearance isn't an issue with 84" blades and I used the Pponk calculator and it said 84" were fine at 2800. Somewhere are 80" is where I'd like to be.

Good news. Talked to Whirlwind this morning and they can reuse my current hub with their blades. $1500 per blade plus ~$700 for hub overhaul and blade install. They recommended the 210 blade for the application it will be going on. Down side is lead time is 6-8 weeks.

That is dangerous knowledge... I've not even flown my brand new prop and I'm already planning for a blade replacement  #-o

I wonder if I can just trade props with a local to see if the Whirlwind 210 makes as much difference as I expect it will... [-o<

The blade were originally designed to be installed in a MacCauley hub.
The blades / complete prop assembly are designed/approved for this engine installation by the manufacturer.
Every expert consulted has indicated they foresee no problems, including Whirlwind and MacCauley technical support (I asked both some months ago). I also check with the shop that did the Lycoming engine. I even asked about c/weights or not, they really had no concerns with either (given it's experimental nature). There are already many other aircraft flying with this very configuration.
Sure, yes, there is still an unknown. Thus the "test pilot" approval comes from the Feds, for this very reason. What more is there????? #-o

Which part are you referring to, using the McCauley prop or using Whirlwind blades?

As Battson said the Whirlwind blades were designed for the McCauley hub so that is a non issue. I realize they are not certified blades but I think that is better that sticking with what I have; certified AL blades that were never approved on this engine. I would really like an MT but unless I can find a used one there is no way I can afford it. The prop I have is useless to anyone else so it doesn't carry any value. Being able to use the hub with blades that will eliminate the harmonics problem seems like a good option to me.
