McCreary 8:50's vs Goodyear 26's ??

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Keith,

The Goodyear blimps use a proprietary wheel type, that is designed for tubeless tires. The Goodyear 26 inch tires were designed as a tubeless tire for the blimps, but they adapted them to split wheels on fixed wing aircraft. As long as you're making them, might as well sell a few, eh?

Do a search for tire groover. There are all kinds of them on the market. The electric type cost more but they work the best.

You can put the two halves of the wheel together with a little bead of silicone, and use a tubeless valve, and 26" Goodyears won't lose a bit of air. Probably not legal but works.

Did roll one off the rim once, running it really low, and locked a wheel to turn around on asphalt. Wondered about a little fresh paint on the inside bead before mounting them? Never tried it. Never had a problem with hard brakes tho, slid em lots of times. They are really tough tires, and will stand a lot of asphalt with no wear on a Cub.

For most strips they're great, but man o man I love Bushwheels, they open up a whole buncha places to land.... :)

The tire groover that Wup got for me was made by the Van Alstine Tool Company. It is called the tire tol. It looks like the pt. # may be 42920. Their phone # is 61.489.7670.

Hope that helps Gary
