McFarlane Tail Cone Angle Kit Conundrum

We are trying to install these McFarlane tail cone reinforcement splices ('58 C180) and have not been able to position them in such a way that provides adequate rivet/screw 2d "edge distances" when locating holes in the splices.

Has anyone installed this mod? Any problems (mentioned above) with the installation?

At this point, we are at a stand still awaiting McFarlane's recommendations.

Thanks.

I believe Bill Duncan of Bushwheel fame developed this kit.
Maybe you could contact him for some advice.
He's in the Joseph OR area.

Re: McFarlane Tail Cone Angle Kit Conundrum

Is 2D actually called for in the instructions?I was under the impression 1.5D was the aluminum standard, 1D for steel, measured from the center of the hole to the edge.

I’ve never installed one so I can’t help you there.

Good luck with the install.

Thanks for the replies.

The kit instructions don't specify edge distances. I can only find 43.13-1b acceptable edge distance as "2d".

I've bumped into "1.5d" somewhere in my readings, but have lost a reference to it since. If anyone knows of this "1.5d" reference, I would certainly appreciate that info so I could pass along to my IA.

As far as Bill Duncan goes, the phone number on the QMI webpage takes you to McFarlane, not to Bill or QMI. Here again, if anyone happens to know Bill's number and wouldn't mind sharing it with me, you could send me it at "[email protected]".

Thanks again...

Regarding trying to contact Bill Duncan...

1) The phone number takes you to McFarlane. 2) I've sent a message through this portal a number of weeks ago and have not received any response.

We are communicating with McFarlane as to how we can solve the install. Their tech has said via phone messages to relocate "new" holes to accommodate edge distance requirements. We have requested this guidance to be in writing. Either a letter or at least an email. No response as of yet.

What am I missing here???
