One of the bike sites I frequent talking about the switchbacks on the road got some pretty serious water damage last week. Just wondering if it's the same place, if the strip is still usable and if it might be a little more exclusive for a bit?
Any locals?

We were excited to heli in Silverton — until we saw the bird. Looking like something your stoner uncle built in the garage out of four Meccano sets, a fish tank, and an AMC Pacer, this helicopter seats a pilot plus two only, making it a tricky vehicle, logistics-wise, when your group has 8 people in it. I used to hear that it would have a tendancy to hold water near the middle of the strip if they got much rain. I flew over it yesterday, but wasn't really close enough for a good look. Didn't look bad from where I was.
They did a bunch of work on it a year or two ago, don't know if that helped the problem or not.
As always, a close inspection would be recommended.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.
My SPOT page
Yes in the middle gets a muddy spot after thunderstorms. It is really hard to tell when the mud dries because it still is shiney until someone puts a few tracks across the bad spot. Most of the time you can get a pretty good indication of strip condition fronm the dirt road just north of the strip between Hell Roaring canyon and Mineral canyon along side the river.
However this is not 100% accurate
Sometimes there are puddles on the road but the strip is dry and vice versa.
