ln October 1931, pilots Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon made the first ever nonstop flight across the Pacific Ocean in
Miss Veedol, a modified 1930 Bellanca Skyrocket. The big, orange, tube-and-fabric aircraft departed Sabishiro Beach near
Misawa in Aomori Prefeclure, Japan, heavily loaded with 9'15 gallons of aviation fuel. After a mileJong run down the beach,
they finally succeeded in getting airbome. After a 41 hour flight, they landed in East Wenatchee the morning of October
5.
The Port Townsend Aero Museum in western Washington will be hosting a visit from the Spirit of Wenatchee group and their Miss Veedol replica on Saturday August 18. The airplane will be on display from 9:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. Descriptive literature, T-shirts, hats and other souvenirs will be on sale at the aircraft.
ln addition to free viewing of Miss Veedol, the Port Townsend Aero Museum will be offering half-price admission all day long as well as $100 rides in their own vintage airplane(s).

EDIT: supposed to be sunny here through at least Saturday,
but Monday was smokey & today (Tuesday) even more so.
Flow is supposed to change tomorrow and hopefully clear out Puget Sound.
But the smoke is really bad in Wenatchee and over the Cascades,
dunno if that's forecast to ease off or not.
If things don't improve, that could prevent Miss Veedol from flying over for the event.
People can call PT Aero Museum 360-379-5244
to check on that friday afternoon or saturday morning.
