Modification index for Piper PA-20/22

Here's a glimpse at what I have envisioned for the Aircraft section of the Knowledge Base:

http://www.backcountrypilot.org/knowledge-base/aircraft/modifications/162-piper-pa-20-22#modifications

Obviously a lot more can be added to provide information about PA-20/22 itself, but this is the backcountry-oriented modification list that people using the BCP Knowledge Base might find useful when considering how to mod their aircraft.

Thanks to Brian at Steve's Aircraft for compiling this list based on their years of expertise with Piper shortwings.

We're not trying to recreate or replace type-specific sites, rather we're trying to create a list of mods specific to backcountry/STOL/off-airport flying for all types of aircraft. Who's interested in helping tackle the next one?

That is a great list!
Thanks Brian and Z!

Svens also has the borer stc for the 150-160 pacers.

AK bushwheels 26-29 are stc'd but they require hd brakes which are not stc 'd unless AK bushwheels new brakes are?

Indeed.....a great and useful idea! I look forward to additional lists.

Spoke to my mechanic yesterday, and he commented that my 170 has forty approved mods......holy cats.

It does not take long for them to stack up.... Just off the top of my head I can think of 8 done on my Pacer. These include tail wheel conversion, one time stc 0-360 conversion, skylight, field approved long range tanks, gascolator, rudder trim, wheels and brakes and 1/2 inch fuel lines.

I also know that this list on the Pacers is not quite complete.... I whipped it up in a couple of days and Z made it the finished product. I am primarily focusing it on "AVAILABLE" STC's... For instance, the Ace Demer / Madras droop tip was a popular mod ( one more for my Pacer, it has them ) but unfortunately, Demer has passed and the family no longer supports the STC and will not sell it to anyone else. So, it is now not available. Same thing with the old Plane Booster tips, since Cub Crafters bought it, they changed the profile and only approved it on the Cub's and is not available for the Pacer.

If there are any other STC mods that I missed that are available mods, please let Z know so that they can be added.

Thanks folks..

Brian.

With respects, a significant number of AK and other back country PA-20/22 operators feel the following STC is relevant to off-airport and STOL ops:

Controls:

Installation of manual flap control extension STC 02246LA EZ Flap

I have many times thought about the EZ flap for the pacer, because I do keep my right shoulder harness a bit loose to reach the flap handle.... But due to the right side door upfront, getting in and out is already restricted if flaps are not at zero notches and adding anything in that area would make access to the pilot seat very difficult. Have there actually been any EZ flaps installed on Pacers without a left side door?

Yes, I know of one that was built locally that is now in Boston.... The owner is a large person and the EZ Flap makes it so he can actually use them...

EZ, your STC is one of a few that I have already given Z as an update to the list..

Thank you Brian.
Kevbot, the unit was originally certified on a stock one-door PA-22. e-mail me directly at [email protected] to minimize thread hijack, I do have specific detailed answers for your questions and concerns.

For you Short winged guys out there what are your thoughts on all these 20-25K Pacers that are popping up lately?
