Moose Creek

Going to Moose Creek Friday afternoon for a couple of days. Any neat things to hike to(within 2-3 miles) in the vicinity?

There is a fire burning seveal miles east of Moose Creek. It appears that they are not going to fight that fire. We decided not to go there because of the fire and the possible smoke. Let me know if you get more information.

About 1 mile up Moose Creek is Seminole Ranch on the north side of Moose Creek. I think there is still a foot bridge across. About three years ago it went out of private ownership and back to the forest service. A tragedy. Beautiful barn and house and a nice one-way airstrip. It won't be many years before the Forest Service tears it all down.

About 4 miles up Moose Creek, again on the north side at the confluence of the East and West Fork of Moose Creek is the old Moose Creek Ranches site. The Forest Service tore everything down and burned it in the early 1970's. What they couldn't burn they buried. Then they destroyed the airstrip.

The fishing generally gets better the farther up Moose Creek you go since most people don't walk very far from the Ranger Station.

I was on the Selway today to pick up a guy at Running Creek. Smokey. But where isn't it?

Anyhow, as someone pretty comfortable with the area, I still had to come in at about 9000MSL and find North Star and circle down to Running Creek. Below about 6000MSL, vis was probably 7 miles or better, but there was a pretty thick layer for about 3,000 feet. One of our planes ended up overnighted this evening in Hammilton trying to get to the Selway lodge; was a no go all day.

It's going to be a game day decision. There is a get together in the Missouri Breaks Friday also. I will call the number listed for the Moose Creek airport on Thursday to find out the latest. I'd really rather go to Moose Creek if we can.
