MOOSE CREEK STORM DAMAGE
A general forum for anything related to flying the backcountry. Please check first if your new topic fits better into a more specific forum before posting.
MOOSE CREEK has substantial damage to the forest. Hundreds of trees were blown down or broken changing the look of Moose Creek for many years.
Chad, the ranger, and his crew, the fire crew, and another small group have done an outstanding job in clearing the trails and most of the campsites. Chad has done a great job.
It will take hundreds of volunteers to help bring Moose Creek back to its former beauty. We have been flying into Moose Creek for over 30 years and have never seen this amount of devastation.
Moose Creek is still great and the fishing is outstanding.

This is very unfortunate news. I have been going there for twenty years and simply love the place.
Please keep us posted via this thread if there are any work parties scheduled. I will spread the word in my circles.

The Moose Creek drainage has been burned over extensively the last couple of decades. The trails along the creek going upstream have been pretty much impassable in recent years--a big change from when I first went there in the '90s. I imagine that it's all jackstraw blowdowns now. I'm grateful for all of the volunteers, including the RAF's contributions to keeping this beautiful place. It will be different, for sure.

RAF will be back Oct 4-7 to finish the fence project we started last October. Probably also to repair the damage to that fence if it hasn't already been done. USFS issued a chainsaw exemption to take care of a lot of the damage and blown down trees. Several groups have been in there already working.

Cool. I was wondering about those chainsaw cuts in the picture.
